My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a few months back and I made them a DVD of their past 50 years with pictures, 8mm movies and songs. When I did the chapter showing them and their family growing up, I used that song. It was so fitting for their life together and their family.

Now that my father has found out he has cancer, he is also a heart transplant patient, this song means more to me. I seem to watch that video more and more to remember all the good times our family has had and of all the good times we will have in his future.

Cotton or silk? Pajamas or nightgown or nothing at all? How does your night time fashion affect your day?

I am just a cotton tshirt at night kind of girl. Since its warm here most of the time of the year, thats all I need to wear. Now, when I get up in the morning, I usually pull on a pair of shorts or flannel bottoms, depending on the weather. But thats it for me on pjs.

Now then, if I am sick, I have this “granny” gown that I wear for that purpose only. For some reason, it makes me feel better.

Bring back the oldies. What fashion would you like to see make a comeback?

Since I’m not a fashion hog, I really couldn’t say. I hated everything about the 70’s and 80’s fashion and like the simplicity of the 50’s and 60’s.

But, I mean really, being a redneck all I need is a few tshirts and overalls and I’m all set! Is that fashion in an era?

I’m going to deviate from the Fashion theme today and ask if you have ever been in the middle of cooking when if you realized you were missing a key ingredient and couldn’t make a dash to the store? What did you do?

I had a hankerin’ for oatmeal cookies the other night. So, I checked to see if I had all my ingredients and I was short 1 stick of butter. hhhhhhmmmmmm I thought, what would I use. Well, I looked in my pantry and had one of those stick Crisco’s and it was just enough for me to finish out my recipe. I had no idea what it would do to the cookies and I had no idea if the thing was still any good. It was still in the sealed wrapper, I smelled it and it smelled like Crisco. So I took a chance.

When it comes to making any kind of cookies, I am not the best at it. I can never make my cookies look like the ones on tv. How they spread out so nice and even. Mine are usually every shape imaginable.

When the 1st batch came out, and I tested it, it was great!!!!!!!!! My husband ate almost all those cookies in just a few days. Well, maybe I helped a bit on that.

So that recipe will stay the way I messed it up.

Let’s see what kind of fashion personality you have

Fashion personality? Well, lets see. Jeans, penny loafers, oxford cloth shirt, khaki pants. My fashion hasn’t changed for many years. I hate to buy something and the next day is out of fashion. So, I buy the everyday staples in clothing and they are still in fashion.

!. Cashmere sweaters - they go with everything!!
2. Black skirt and pants - everyday wear and well, you never know when you are going to a funeral.
3. Little Black dress - need I say more
4. Jeans - go out and spend a bit of money on a pair of good fitting jeans. And girls, please keep them above the cheek area in the back!!
5. Nice tshirts - I have found out that if I buy a good tshirt in different colors, they will go with everything that I wear all year long. I buy mine and Lands End and LL Bean in short and long sleeve. They wash and wear for years and never go out of style.
6. Khaki pants and shorts - again, goes with everything and have great solid colors besides khaki.
7. Capri’s - after living here in Florida for a bit, I find them great for all year round. I have to admit that I do have some Capri’s in patterns.
8. Penny Loafers - yes, I love them and will always have a pair of them. I am NOT a heal girl.
9. Tennis shoes - I will spend good money on a pair of good walking shoes. I wear them almost everyday.
10. Lounging around the house clothes - a must and can find them at Walmart.
11. Purse - I hate purses and I hate caring them! I have one for summer and one for winter.
12. Oxford cloth shirts - I have to admit, I have alot of these shirts. Once again, they go with my khakis and jeans and they have been around for years. I will pay a bit more for them from Lands End and LL Bean.

That is my basic fashion sense. A little boring, but it works for me.

And always remember, NEVER wear white before Easter and after Labor Day!!

Beauty Secrets. What beauty secrets do you use (no matter how unusual)?

My #1 secret is not to let my face in the sun. I have been wearing a hat in the sun since my 20’s and I think it shows now that I am 50. This is a hard task here in Florida, but sunscreen helps alot. I also use Retin A and I think that keeps all the dead skin off of my face and I use a loofah pad a lot to keep my skin smooth. I also use a lot of moisturizer, especially when the weather gets really dry.

I wish I had a secret for sagging skin though, but I know that comes with age and I can’t do anything about that except get a face lift! I am saving my money to get laser surgery on my eyes so I can SEE like a normal person.

No big secrets here, just taking care of the only skin I have and keeping it out of the sun.
