The month has just flown by! And I have so much fun doing these prompts, let’s go out this month with a laugh. Share something funny: a joke, a funny video, a story, whatever makes you laugh.

Since I am a redneck by heart, I thought I would pass along a few redneck photo’s for your viewing pleasure and enjoyment.

Redneck Harley

Redneck Gingerbread house

Redneck Mailbox - acutally there is one just like this on the main road to my little home town.

Redneck guest house

And last but not least

Sorry for the pictures not being as clear as possible. Remember, rednecks were using electronics at the time.

Choose one of your senses and use it to describe something you experience today.**Does that make sense? If you choose hearing, tell us in great detail of something you heard today.

As my crazy dog and I were taking our walk through the neighborhood this morning, it was refreshing to hear all the sounds in my 55+ community. The ping of the paddles connecting with the balls while playing pickle ball, hearing “good shot” and knowing someone just made a point. The sounds of tennis being played, women taking their swimming classes and hearing the instructions over the intercom and the jazzy music they work out to. Other people walking their dogs or just taking a stroll and hearing all the pleasant “Good Mornings” as we pass each other. There must be a farm close by because I can always hear a mule, horses and lots of dogs barking. All the exotic Florida birds passing over my head as they head for the holding ponds in the area to catch fish. The sounds of the the golf carts passing me by either on their way to play golf or heading to the community center. And as the crazy dog and I make it back home, I always enjoy hearing the sound of my husband’s voice and I always know that life is good.

And as I close this blog post, I am enjoying the sweet sound of my crazy dog as he snores during the much needed nap after our long walk today.

Wrong Time?

Have you ever thought (or been told) that you were born in the wrong time? When in history do you think you would best ‘fit in’?

Since I just LOVE electronics and computers and all that geek stuff, I guess I was born in the right time to have all these wonderful devices. Who would’ve thought that I can listen to hundreds of songs from a device smaller than an egg, send a message across the globe and get a response back in seconds, meet wonderful new friends from all the blogging, and I could go on and on.

I got my degree in Computer Science back in the late ’70s and things were so basic and new back then when it came to computers. Since I lived in rural Missouri then and marriage seemed to be the right answer and not leaving to work in computers. People in my area wouldn’t hire me, because I was over qualified with my degree. I guess it scared some folks. Oh well, the life of a geek.

We used keypunch cards back then and I needed a shoe box just to carry all the cards for a simple program. (I had wrote a program on how to make a Wendy’s hamburger many ways). For those who don’t know what key punch cards are, when you write computer program, each line of the program was punched out on a card. So, if your program was hundreds of lines long, well you can imagine how many cards a person would have to carry around.

These pictures show a type of computer that was used back then and a sample of the key punch cards.

I also wrote a term paper in English class about debit cards. I just loved that idea of not having to carry much in a purse. I hate purses!! Anyway, I did some serious research on the idea and wrote, what I thought, a wonderful term paper. Well, my teacher didn’t think so. When I got my paper back, she said she didn’t understand the concept of debit cards, so my research didn’t back it up and she gave me a C on it!! I couldn’t believe it. How could anyone not understand the concept of a Debit Card and my research was right on. But then, she kept a picture of Dolly Parton on her desk, so that might explain a lot there.

Maybe I was born before my time.

Toys

What were your favorite toys or games when you were a child?

I was a child in the late 50’s and 60’s and there were some really neat toys out then. And oh, btw, none of those toys in anyway harmed my life!

Anyway, slinky and slinky dog, Chatty Cathy and Barbie. I have to say those were some of my favs. The slinky I could play with for hours. Trying to figure out how that did that gong down the stairs. Well, the dog you couldn’t do that to. You just walked him. Chatty Cathy I had for years. I mean all the way through high school. Of course, I cut her hair off and she was a stubble head, but she was still my Chatty Cathy. Fun doll. And of course, Barbie was a big hit with me. Barbie was born in 1959, so I was there for the 1st addition. I had her and Ken and they lived in a cardboard Barbie House.

I played for hours with them in this cardboard house. All the furniture was cardboard and I loved it. Always changing the decor around for parties and such. I never could understand why Barbie had hair and Ken had plastic hair. Oh well, maybe thats why I never trusted him.

Later I got Barbie with movable legs, knees, arms and elbows. Now she was cool and my grandmother would make Barbie and I the same outfits. I wish I had pictures of those.

When my parents moved to Florida, we got rid of all the Barbies and their cases. I will probably regret that.

Books to Read

What’s on your reading list? How many books are waiting in the queue?

I love to read Lisa Scottoline’s books. A woman after my own heart. Well, I’m not a lawyer or anything like that, but she just gets the job done. I need to pick up her next book. If you like John Grisham’s books, you will certainly like hers.

My son and everyone else I know wants me to read all the Harry Potter books. So I must try that soon also.

But I must recommend to all my gal pals this book.

The Devine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood

This is the only book that has made me cry and laugh at the same time. Great to give to all your girlfriends. This book just really tug at my heart strings. The movie doesn’t do it justice though.

Wake me up

Is it coffee or tea for you in the morning? Give some free advertising for your favorite morning pick-me-up.

Before I met my husband, I hated the taste of coffee. Smelling it brew was a different story. My morning caffeine back then was on the way to work, I would drink a Tab. I love that soda!!

But now he has me hooked on coffee and I love it. I don’t like really strong coffee with a little bit of sweetener and cream in it. I do love those flavored creamers. The Irish flavor is my fav.

During Christmas I had a chocolate and caramel flavored coffee which was wonderful. Its a must for after dinner with desert.

Since I am from the south, there is only one way to drink tea and that is in a tall glass with lots of ice and sugar!!
