Poems, Earthquakes and Rednecks
The day my husband and I married, he gave me the most wonderful gift. He had wrote a poem for me! It’s about us meeting online and all the traveling he had to do from Georgia to Missouri and how hard it was on the two of us before we married. Yes, girls, he is the perfect guy!! I hope you enjoy the poem as much as I do. He even had it framed and it hangs on my side of the bed in our bedroom.
Taking You Home
It all started out so innocently
Just a simple conversation between you and me.
Who would have dreamed we’d fall in love
But obviously God’s hand was there from above.
We knew from the start there would be mountains to climb
We just didn’t know it would take so much time.
Sometimes we laughed and sometimes we cried
And there were even times when I thought I had died.
It was so hard having to live far apart
But it didn’t matter, I’d given you my heart.
Well the struggle is over for us Tamara Lynn
But I think we have learned that true love really can win.
And now as we begin to start a new life
I am so honored Tammy to call you my wife.
Mrs. Tamara Lynn Adams, you are so beautiful
And just to be able to say that sounds so wonderful.
I look so forward to sharing our life together
Even crawling in the bed during that stormy weather.
And of all the things I could say to you now
These are my promises, I solemnly vow.
I will love you forever and cherish you too
And honor and respect you and keep our love true.
I will never be abusive, unfaithful or mean
I want us to feel like we’re living a dream.
And if I should start to get a little ill
I promise to take out a tape and listen to Dr. Phil.
And now that you are officially my mate
I promise you this: We will continue to date.
There will be no more of this being alone
Cause when we leave here, I’m taking you home.

My husband, my mother and I are heading up to Southeast Missouri tomorrow for my father’s memorial service. And what happens right before we leave? A 5.2 quake on Friday and a pretty good after shock this morning! All those earthquake phobias are coming back!
Let me explain. As some of you already know about earthquake centered in Illinois last Friday. I am from Southeast Missouri where the New Madrid earthquake fault zone is located. The earthquake Friday was part of this zone. The picture above shows the bootheal of Missouri and the top of the heavy red area is where I lived. Not a pretty site. Those are all the quakes that happened in that area from 1975-1995.
I’m sure most of you have never heard of this zone because it isn’t very active, but it is one of the largest ones in the country. There was a series of quakes in 1811-1812 that made the Mississippi River run backwards. The largest one was over 8.0. My hometown of Charleston was hit in 1895 by a 6.2 earthquake. The experts have been predicting “The Big One” for years now. I felt a few good quakes while living there and by the way, I lived about 15 miles north of New Madrid. Since this area is mainly sand, when the big one happens, our area will turn into quick sand.
How can you prepare for the idea that you are going to sink into quick sand?? You can’t, and living there was rather touchy and when you felt some of the smaller quakes, it just reminded you where you were living.
I was fine this morning, ready to head up north, until I walked pass the tv and an expert of the New Madrid fault was giving his opinions of that area. ARGH!!!!!!!! I guess, I will need to have a few cocktails while visiting. *LOL*

While up in Missouri, I will be visiting all my friends and can’t wait to catch up and have some fun. Just to show the humor my best friend Kathy has, she sent me a pic today that I must pass on to you. We just love those Rednecks!!
