Summer Olympics

On this date in 1932, the Olympic games opened in Los Angeles. They’ll start next week again in Beijing. How do you feel about the Olympics?

I love the Olympics, especially the swimming competition in the summer.  I love watching Italian men in Speedo’s!  (wiping off drool)

Sorry.  I’m old and I confess that I like looking at nice looking men.  Especially Italian men in Speedo’s.  (passes out)

I will watch a couple of other things, but I’m sure I will tivo the swim meets for future reference.

Beautiful Skin

As I age and now have 50ish old skin, I am noticing how my skin is starting to show its age.  Not so much wrinkles, but blotches and spots and sagging.  I hate this!!  I wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun, but they are still there and are multiplying.

Chantal Burnison has a wonderful new product using ethocyn anti-aging ingredient to improve the skin’s elastin content.  This product has had tests and has been medically proven to help the elasticity of aging skin.  The articles at the Chantal Ethocynsite are remarkable.  Dr. Chantal Burnison has spent 20 million dollars and 19 years of research on this new product.  The tests results are remarkable.

I can’t wait to try out this product to help improve the texture of my skin.

Nap Anyone?

To nap or not to nap? Which side of this issue are you on?

I cracked up when I saw this prompt today.   Asking someone over the age of 50 whether she wants to nap or not.  I live in a community where schedules are made around every one’s afternoon naps!  The joke around here is, “Time to go to be after Murder She Wrote.”  A tv show that’s over by 8 pm.

Now to answer the question.  I do and I don’t like to take naps.  With my body going through menapause right now, it tells me all the time, “TAKE A NAP”!  But, when I do, I can’t fall asleep when its time to go to bed.  So, I am basically so tired and run down during the day.  When I go to bed, I fall asleep pretty quickly, but then will awake about 3 am and will just lay there wide eyed.  I use to sleep so well too!!

I do love to take a nap while I am riding in a car.  I hear I have been doing that since I was a mere child.  I remember laying in the floor board area in the back of the car to feel the car moving down the road.  It felt like someone was rocking me to sleep.  I loved doing that and of course, this was pre-seat belt era.

Now my husband is another subject.  If he doesn’t get his afternoon nap, he is worse than a very young child around dinner time.  We had some errands to run yesterday and while we were going down the road he said in his best little boy voice, “I’m not going to get my nap this afternoon and I know I will be cranky.”

We also have to watch major TV shows before 9 pm or he will be asleep on the couch.  So, that’s another good reason to have DVR service.

Together we can move a nation!

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease that hits so many people today and has hit my family hard.  My husband’s mother is suffering from this terrible disease and has to be taken care of in a nursing facility.  We have watched this bright, intelligent, wonderful woman with a great personality turn into someone no one recognizes.

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall.

By teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Together, we can MOVE a nation.

Sign up today and walk for an Alzheimer’s patient you know or for one you don’t know.

Favorite Children Books and Layout

In honor of Beatrix Potter’s birthday, tell us about some of the books (as a child and an adult) that you have loved over the years.

I loved Dr. Seuss books so much when I was a little girl.  The Cat and the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham were my favorites.  I always tried to imagine eating green eggs and ham!!  YUK!!

I read alot of Dr. Seuss books to my son because they made him laugh.  But, my favorite one to read to him was Goodnight Moon.  Always the best book to read before he went to sleep.  He was also one of those kids that you couldn’t skip a page.  He would let you know about that for sure.

Money Problems?

My husband and I have been flipping homes for quite awhile now and loved what we were doing.  Then the real estate fell completely out and we had 3 flip homes that were just sitting there and eating up all our capital we had worked so hard to earn.

As the months went on and the houses didn’t sell, we were slowly falling into debt that was hard on both of us.  We called the banks, credit card companies and worked with them until we were able to sell the flip homes and get ourselves back on track.  I think by getting help very early, we were able to stop the high interest on our credit cards and wait for the market to ease off.

We are still not completely out of the red, but are slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  One of the things we looked into was to use Debt consolidation of our bills.  After doing a little research, this would have been great for our credit cards we used to buy supplies for the flip homes.  One bill, one payment, less interest and a lot less worry on our part.

Bills.com is a great place to get Debt Help, Mortgage Loans, Refinance Quotes, Credit Solutions, and help with your bills.  Check out all this great information to help you before you get so far in debt, it will take much longer to get yourself out.

Life Insurance

After living over 50 years now and realizing time is really passing me by, it’s time to think about, “What am I going to do after a spouse dies?”  A question a lot of us don’t want to think about and usually don’t think about until we are much older.

The time to think about your future and if there will be enough to take care of the surviving spouse and children is when you are young and term life insurance is very affordable.  Think about it now, before its too late.

Chocolate – Yea or Nay!

Light-hearted or serious, take a “controversial” issue and argue your point of view. Extra points if you argue both sides!

I could get on my soapbox about a lot of issues today, but I think I will talk about “Chocolate.”  I did a little research and this is what I came up with.

Should I or shouldn’t I eat chocolate?  Lets look at both sides of chocolate.

Cons - Fattening, too much sugar, not much on nutritional value as a candy bar and melts in your hand, toxic to animals, very addictive.

Pros – Cocoa or dark chocolate benefits the circulatory system, Other beneficial effects suggested include anticancer, brain stimulator, cough preventor and antidiarrhoeal effects, may stimulate the hypothalamus, inducing pleasurable sensations as well as affecting the levels of serotonin, an aphrodisiac, tastes great!

So, the conclusion I have come up with is how can anyone not find anything good about chocolate.  And by the way, I wouldn’t give my good chocolate to my dog anyway!!  I would choose dark chocolate over mild chocolate any day and it seems there are more benefits from the darker version.  And the idea that it might help my circulatory system, stimulate my brain a bit and causes me not to have diarrhea and the best part, could help me enjoy a nice night with my hubby!!

I conclude there is not darn thing wrong with CHOCOLATE and I must have it!!!

Let me know what you like or dislike about chocolate.

I have a layout to share with you today made with items by Miss Clever Crow Design Studio.  She has some really great stuff and I just love all her elements.

This was a great play day and picnic at the area playground and we enjoyed time with the grandchildren.

My First Movie and a Layout

With The Dark Knight setting box office records this weekend, tell us about the first movie you saw in the theater (or another movie theater story you have).

When I was a Brownie scout, we went to see Mary Poppins.  That is the earliest memory of going to a theater to watch a movie.  I just remember loving it.  The screen was so large, there was popcorn and it was a great day with my Brownie scout friends.  I guess my mom was one of the helpers, because I remember her going too.

This was back in the early 60’s, so I can only imagine what that theater looked like.  I don’t remember the outside at all.  Wow, that was over 40 years ago!!

We also use to go to the drive in theater every Friday night.  My mom would put a pallet in the back of the station wagon for my brother and I to lay on, she would make a pizza for dinner to take with us and that was our family “Pay Day” treat.  I don’t remember any of those times going, but my mom told me that the movie didn’t start until dark anyway and we usually fell asleep pretty quickly after getting there.  So, maybe this was really date night for my parents.  hehehe
