Cars and Layout

I’ve had quite a few cars in my life and I wish I had never had that many cars.  What a waste of money buying a brand new car.

As I grew older, I realized it was better for me to own a used car and to have it for many years.  Cars now a days seem to last much longer and knock on wood, I haven’t had major problems with any of my cars except for my very first car, the VW Karmann Ghia.  It literary rusted apart and then I went on to my next car the 2 door Skylark.  It was pretty and made just for me.  I then went on to a station wagon, which didn’t last very long at all.  The Jeep was just coming out when I purchased it.  No carpeting, no radio, nothing was in that vehicle.  But it did well for me in the winters and I had it for quite a while.

I then went on to my first foreign car the Nissan Altima which I loved alot.  It was a stick and I truly enjoyed driving it.  When my son left for college, we traded in for the Nissan Maxima, which was bigger for all our weekly trips to his college for visits and ballgames.  My son and husband were not comfy in my Altima.  It was too small for over 6 foot tall men.  I kept that Maxima for 10 years and traded it off on a used Honda CRV which we still have today and its almost at 100,000 miles.  Great vehicle and gets great gas mileage.  My poor Maxima was in pretty bad shape when we traded it in.  The word “Maxima” was on the back of the car and after 10 years all it said was “Maxi”.  Something I was proud to drive around with on the back of my car.  I think it had almost 125,000 miles on it.

I don’t know if I would ever buy a new car again.  My fun side of me wants a convertable VW bug and my sensible side says a Volvo, one of the safest cars on the road today.

My son is turning 29 today and I thought I would make a quick layout about him today.  The kit I used is the Autumn collab kit by Brigit Kerr and Flergs.  I just love their work!  I know I will always find beautiful kits from them.  The word art is a freebie by Dielle.

Dear Friends

Your friendships and what they mean to you

I have had many friends over my years on this world, but my dearest friend is a friend everyone needs to have. I guess over the years I have looked for friends that don’t bring me down to a level that is not true to my heart and that their loyalty to me and my loyalty to them be a very important part of our friendship and she is all that. The saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” My friends better hold her tongue till their last day on this earth!! We can say what needs to be said to each other and listen when its time to listen. Laughter is also very important to us and this is a quality that never stops. If she needs help I am there and same goes for me.

When it came time for me to leave our home town and move to Georgia to marry, I wasn’t worried about telling my parents I was leaving, I was worried about telling my friends. Especially my dearest friend, Miss K. That was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life!!

Going on a Cruise?

I am wanting to go on a cruise so badly and I want to make sure I am prepared.  You have to reserve your trip so far in advance and I’ve heard that travel insurance is the right way to go.

I had friends that went on a cruise and had been there for 24 hours, when that dreaded phone call came that one of the friends mom had passed away.  They all went back home and because they had insurance, their expenses were paid back and the price of their cruise, except for the day they were there.  It worked for them and that’s all I needed to know on whether to purchase this or not on my first cruise.

Cell Phones for Traveling

I have always wondered what I would do if I needed to travel outside the United States and how I could communicate with my family and friends.  I have found out there is great unlocked cell phones that are just perfect for this situation.  No roaming fees and free calls from 80 different countries.  There are also great travelers packages to choose from!

Sad Phone Calls and Layout

What is the most difficult phone call you’ve ever had to make

Actually there were 2 phone calls and they both were made to my son.

The first one was the day I called him to tell him that his father and I were getting a divorce and that I was moving out.  He was in his 20′s and you could tell he already knew that day was going to happen.  We talked for awhile that just because we weren’t going to live together anymore, it didn’t mean we weren’t going to be there for him.  He understood and seemed to take the divorce pretty good, which didn’t make the situation any better, but made me feel that he would be ok with the new situation.

The second phone call was the day I called my son to let him know his grandfather had passed away.  He knew he was really sick and that his time was short.  He had also been down to Florida to visit him just a few weeks before and he knew that was the last time he would see him.  This was my son’s first close family death and it was hard on him.  But, I was so proud of him at the memorial service.  He played the Naval Hymn on his violin for his Papaw and got up to say a few words about him which brought back many happy memories.

April Staker has a few new items in her store right now and I just loved using the Farmer’s Market kit.  The layout below shows what the beautiful kit has to offer.

I love these pictures of dgd doing her chores at her young age.  There are 4 children in that family and they all have things to do daily.  Great job mom.

Those Pesky Critters!

While living in Georgia we would have the daily sitings of deer, which can just eat up a lot of your garden and landscaping.  But, for some reason, they stayed away from the house and we enjoyed them while drinking our morning coffee on the deck.

But, the armadillos didn’t care what they did to our yard.  They dug holes like dogs looking for their favorite little food of grubs.  We could keep the grubs out of the ground, but they really seemed to love my flower beds.  So, I found that coyote urine worked the best.  This comes in a powder form and you just sprinkle in the area of your flowers and no more armadillos.

The pest that really gave us the most headaches was those little squirrels.  They were every where where we lived.  We lived in an open area, but surrounded by Georgia forest with tons of trees.  We tried every thing for critter control and found Havahart’s Critter Control library worked great for helping us decide what to do for our critters.  We would make sure that all the vents in the attic were closed and we also used Critter Ridder close to the house to keep them in their trees.  Just spray the Critter Ridder around the house, on plants you didn’t want them to nibble on and we were set.  We noticed they stayed in the trees or out in the yard.

The other method we used was the squirrel cages which worked well.  Catch the squirrel, take them some where else, let them go.  Happy squirrels!
