Our Anniversary

My husband and I spent a couple of days at St. Augustine, Florida for our anniversary.  We had both been there many years ago, but didn’t pay attention to the history and as a younger person, thought it was boring.  So, we figured age would help us appreciate it more.  Its about 2 hours from where we live, so it made this a quick but very enjoyable trip.  The weather was in the 80′s but the first day we had the usual Florida afternoon quick showers.

I had never been to a Ripley’s Believe It or Not and really enjoyed all the quirky things that happen in this world.  My favorite exhibit was the pictures made only of jewels.  WOW!!  Really sparkly.

There was the million dollar man made of shredded money, the 6 legged cow, the headless rooster, the two headed rabbit (can you tell I enjoyed the farm area?).   There were also many items from other countries there that were very interesting to read about.  The house that the exhibit is in is haunted, so they say.  I wouldn’t want to be there at night for sure.

We walked down St George St. which is the hub of the city.  We saw the oldest wooden school in the US, some beautiful architecture, I love the cobble stone streets, Flagler College, the Gate and many beautiful shops.

We also took a haunted walking tour that was very interesting.  The history of the Oldest City in the US is well worth the time to hear and there is 400 years of stories and hauntings to listen and learn about.  We walked around the fort at dusk hearing all the haunting stories from way back.  And the view of the water with all the boats as the sun was going down was stunning.  We walked threw a small part of the city and hearing the stories of the dead and how some have seen them late at night.  We visited a couple of cemetery’s and I got one picture that I am really thinking might have an interesting apparitions.  But, I guess, I will never know.  That was a fun tour for sure.  Not only entertaining but very educational too.

We had a wonderful dinner on the beach that we both enjoyed.  We were the only ones on the patio, it was cool, the view was great and the food was outstanding.  Not too many times I can say that.  I love blackened grouper and it was cooked perfectly.  My husband even said his steak was one of the best he had ever ate.

The next day we went to the Old Jail.  We had a great time there.  The tour guide, Deputy Clyde, was A+ in my book.  He not only told us enough history but he also made us laugh and enjoy ourselves.  I highly recommend the tours for anything in St. Augustine.  Especially if you are a history buff.

We drove by the lighthouse, but didn’t go in.  I did get a couple of beautiful shots of it.  We also went into a wax museum.  I had never seen one and Glenn thought I would get a kick out of it.  It was really neat and I had a couple of pictures made with some “stars”.

There are a few things we didn’t do and we will go back again.  I want to go into the Fountain of Youth and the Oldest School House for sure.

We had a wonderful couple of days celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary and learning a little bit about the state we live in and our country.  St. Augustine is for an older croud of people.  The children would like the beaches and fun parks for sure.

I took tons of pictures and will have layouts soon to show off.

Have a great day,

Popsicles and a Layout

Blog Prompt – Today is National Grape Popsicle Day and tell me about your favorite Popsicle or ice cream treat as a child.

I remember when I was a child, my mom would make us popsicles herself.  She used the Tuperware popsicle forms and fill it with Kool Aid.  My brother and I loved those. We always knew there were popsicles in the freezer when we got home from school.  The picture shows the kind she used.  They are from back in the 60′s and I think Tupperware makes updated ones now.  These make great items for families and they are much cheaper to make then to buy already made.

I had the pleasure of using Cara Mia Deisgns Summer Oasis kit.  What beautiful colors, papers and elements for all those beach and summer pictures you have.  You can find it here.

And here is my layout.

What a Day!!

I have always been terrified of guns because of some things that have happened in my life.  One was an accident, the other was intentional.  And the fear of what guns can do really over whelmed me a lot.   I was never taught or shown how to handle a gun.  Fear, plain and simple.

Today though, I faced my fears and took a class on gun safety.  This meant that I was going to have to shoot a gun.

Believe me.  I was more nervous and fearful than you can imagine.  I went to the class with my husband, who has shot a gun many times and really enjoyed it.  We learned about the laws in Florida and how to handle a gun properly.  Slowly the anxiety started to leave.  But, we still hadn’t shot a gun and now it was time to do that.

We drove out to a very nice gun range and we were the only people there.  We had 8 in our class and all of us 50+ years old and I was the only one that hadn’t shot a gun.  After taking this course, you can get certified to carry a concealed weapon.  I was just worried about shooting the thing and not having a heart attach.

I was last because I was the special student.  He took his time with me, made sure I loaded the one bullet in the chamber and made sure my stance was good.  The reason for only one bullet is so that you don’t expect the first shot.  That was my biggest fear.  What to expect for the first shot.

I was sweating, making sure I was in perfect form and slowly pulled the trigger.  Nothing.  Again, pulled the trigger.  Nothing.  I thought, one more time.  Maybe its the next one.  I slowly pulled the trigger and BANG!  I shot my very first bullet.

I just stood there and couldn’t believe it.  Everyone else was standing in the safe zone.  I put the gun down and turned and everyone cheered!!  I did it!! I FACED MY WORSE FEAR!!  And didn’t pee my pants.

We shot a few more shots and I also shot at a target the same size as a bowling pin.  Out of 10 shots, I hit it 5 times.  All on the left side.  (My finger was on  the trigger too much.)  Not too bad for a beginner.

Of course, I kept my target for my scrapbook but didn’t take any pictures.  I guess my mind was more on the gun safety.  Which was the point.

Now I feel safe about being around a gun and am glad that I took the course.  Some day, I will be alone and will need that safety factor to fall back on.   I recommend a course to any woman out there for protection.

Need Help with Bills?

My husband and I have been flipping homes for quite awhile now and loved what we were doing. Then the real estate fell completely out and we had 3 flip homes that were just sitting there and eating up all our capital we had worked so hard to earn.

As the months went on and the houses didn’t sell, we were slowly falling into debt that was hard on both of us. We called the banks, credit card companies and worked with them until we were able to sell the flip homes and get ourselves back on track. I think by getting help very early, we were able to stop the high interest on our credit cards and wait for the market to ease off.

We are still not completely out of the red, but are slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. One of the things we looked into was to use Debt Consolidation for our bills. After doing a little research, this would have been great for our credit cards we used to buy supplies for the flip homes. One bill, one payment, less interest and a lot less worry on our part.

DebtConsolidationConnection.com is a great place to get Debt Help, Mortgage Loans, Refinance Quotes, Credit Solutions, and help with your bills. Check out all this great information to help you before you get so far in debt, it will take much longer to get yourself out.
