Blog Prompt – What was your ideal school experience?

I think that would be the year when I was a Senior when we went to the  State Championship in basketball.  That had never happened before and we were all so excited.  Buses full of students and cars full of spectators,  all went to watch the big game, featuring our little 3A school.

We won that year, and many more years after that.

It was the first time that I was staying in a hotel, with other students and supervised.  I thought I was all grown up.  It was fun and exciting and something I will never forget.

I love living in Florida and being able to sit outside on our lanai most of the year. Recently we added a water fountain and we haven’t looked back. It looks a lot like the picture to the left.

I have a butterfly garden right off my lanai and with this water feature, I planted something the butterflies live to drink from and the water is a treat for them too. I have seen a hummingbird there also. The sound is so soothing when I am out there and it sure does make the wrongs of the day float away.

Every home, especially in the winter, need that extra humidity. Describe your favorite or most influential teacher.

I don’t think I really had that “one” teacher that really stood out all those years.  There was a couple that I always wondered how they could be teachers, but I respected the majority of all my teachers.

I will say that my Freshman year, my English teacher, who was new to our area was someone I really learned from.  He was from the north and would make little jokes about the way would butcher some words.

He told us one day, “The word WASH does not have an R in it.”  There are a lot of people that pronounce it WARSH where I am from.  Ever since then I would remember not to do that.  We also have an interesting class one day about giving directions without using your hands.  I enjoyed that one, but I still use my hands to give directions.

I had this same teacher my Senior year and the day before my Senior Prom, I dislocated my finger and had to have a semi-kind-of cast on it.  I was just in tears when I got back from the doctor and went to his class.  He asked what was wrong, I told him I couldn’t go to my prom with this thing on my hand.  He kissed my hand and said that I would still have a great time.

I never forgot his kindness.  Especially to a crying, teenage girl.  What a nice man and great teacher he was then.

I have spoke to him one time since I graduated and he is now at a college teaching.  Some where he always wanted to teach.

I have a friend who recently became a widow and a few days later shes telling me how she wasn’t able to sleep because of being alone. We talked about maybe it was due to her husband being gone and that not having that security of someone being close and next to her during the night.

After a few weeks, she still wasn’t comfortable with being alone and I asked her if she thought about getting a security system for her home. At least, when she went to bed at night, she would feel comfortable and maybe help get her life back on track and feel better with time.

We looked at different home security systems and sat and read safety tips for the home and realized that ADT was the company she should go with. Their systems has what she is looking for and they company is top notch for sure.

Since the system has been set up, she is feeling much better about being by herself now and I can see it in her face and that her smile is back now. Nothing will ever replace her husband, but knowing she is secure in her home now such a relief for me and her family.
