My Favorite Dip

Blog Prompt – Monday is National Chip and Dip Day. What is your favorite and why?

Oh this is such a bad thing for me. I love chip and dips of virtually any kind. When I go to parties, I literally start drooling over all the varieties. It’s like a candy store for a child!

I guess my favorite chip and dip choice is Neiman Marcus Dip. It is super easy to make and is extremely good. I have requests for this often.

Neiman Marcus Dip

1 pound of fried bacon, crumbled
4 oz. shredded cheddar cheese
4 green onion tops, chopped
1 cup real Mayonnaise (Not Miracle Whip)

Mix all ingredients and serve chilled.

I serve this with Triscuits or Wheat Thins or any other thick crackers.

Enjoy your chip and dips this week,

My Energy Efficient Home

My husband and I have been trying to figure out how to save money in our home and since we have a 5 year old home, there are still things we can do. And every penny counts now a days for sure and we live on a budget. An Energy saving plan is very important to us right now.

I recently went to Microsoft Hohm to find out what I can do to save energy in my home. I was very surprised at the ease of using this website. Its free and all you have to do is start up an account. After this, you fill out everything that pertains to your home. How old appliances are, the structure of your home, insulation, your windows and other basic home information. After you finish the survey and you need to do the advanced survey to make sure you insert all the information about your home, you will receive an energy report to let you know how you can save energy and money in your home.

Our home energy report showed me quite a few things I could do to save us a few hundred dollars a year!! Of course living in Florida our biggest energy usage is our air conditioning costs. And one way to save in our home is to put a programmable thermostat. This would save us about $200 a year. I’m all for that for sure.  The website has a video tutorial to show you how to do it yourself and saving money without paying a repairman.

Another thing we can do is to change out the rest of our bulbs with the compact fluorescents. I have changed out many of them but not all of the ceiling lights yet. We are waiting for them to burn out first. I hate to waste anything and I don’t want to throw out good bulbs yet. By doing this through out our home we could save another $200! That is an average of $400 we could save in a year or about $34.00 a month. I can live with that too!!

I know one big energy user in homes are the home appliances you have. The older the appliance, the harder it works. Our refrigerator is starting to make some serious noises and I’m wondering if its over working to keep up.  My next one will be energy efficient for sure.

Take 10 minutes out of your day and go to www.microsoft-hohm.com to see how much you can save in your home.

Try Lux Score for a Luxury Apartment Search

A friend of mine was looking for a new luxury apartments where her new job is located at and she told me about a website where she could search for Austin Luxury Apartments.

She was lucky and found a great deal on a really beautiful and nice apartment.  She was looking for a little more luxury for herself to enjoy in her later years.  She told me the website was easy to move around in and scores each listing based upon the luxury features that it has.   Just put the name of your city and state, how many rooms and bathrooms you are looking for.  She couldn’t believe all the different choices she found in the area she specified.  Choices are shown with pictures, descriptions and the amount of rent.  There were many photos of one apartment she was looking at.   I loved that and we both could see the outside, the area and the complete inside of the apartment. She was also able to shop for different floor plans and amounts of rent, if she wanted to.

What a great and easy experience for her to find the perfect apartment. Saves time and money and you don’t have to shop around in your car first.

Life 365 Project – March 15-21

Another week has gone by and the play is over.  I really enjoyed being the Stage Manager for the play Plaza Suite.  A funny play about everyday couples.  This was my second experience being the stage manager and I hope they ask me again.  I love being behind the stage and helping out the actors and building the set.

Earn a 2010 Homebuyer Tax Credits

Are you looking to purchase a new home or are you ready to move? Buying First Home tax credits are available until April 30th of this year.

Here are a few requirements:

Refundable: The credit is refundable, meaning tax filers see a refund of the full $8,000 even if their total tax bill – the amount of withholding they paid during the year- was less than that amount.

Purchase Date: To qualify for the credit, the purchase must be made by April 30, 2010. Buyers may not have owned a primary home (lived in it) for the past three years to qualify as “first time” buyer. They must also live in the house as their primary residence for at least three years, or they will be obligated to pay back the credit. Homeowners who have lived in a current home consecutively for 5 of the past 8 years can receive up to a $6,500 tax credit.

Paperwork: Applying for the credit will be easy – or at least as easy as doing your income taxes. Just claim it on your return. No other forms or papers have to be filed. Taxpayers who have already completed their returns can file amended returns for 2008 to claim the credit.

Income Restrictions: To qualify, buyers must make less than $125,000 for singles or $225,000 for couples. (Higher-income buyers may receive a partial credit.)

The legislation also includes language to help members of the military take advantage of the credit including a later deadline and the ability to sell their home without having to repay the credit if they are deployed to another location within three years of purchasing the home.

Here is a quick video to help explain more:

A Second Language

Blog Prompt – What is the best reason for learning another language?

For me, I have a really hard time with English. Much less trying to learn a foreign language.

But, I guess speaking Redneck is a second language for me. I’m a country girl and if you know many people from the country, you find out quickly how we butcher the English language. I defiantly put more than 1 or 2 syllables on a word that really shouldn’t be there.

Like the word dog. I drag it out to dawwwgggg.

My mom use to say, “Were you raised in a barn.” Cause our manners weren’t right.

If something is really good to eat, I say, “That’ll make you slap yer momma.” But you are only allowed to say that if the meal is REALLY good.

I’m “fixin to” is a saying I use a lot. I’m fixin to do this. I’m fixin to make supper.

Oh, and I do know a little sign language. I use to bowl with a deaf woman and she taught us many signs. Mainly all the bad words.

Have a great day,
