My Precious Blood and American Idol

Blog Prompt – Today the American Red Cross was established on this day in 1873. Have you ever given blood? If so, tell me about your experience.

I had never given blood before until my dad was put on the heart transplant list and we were told we could store our blood to use for him.  This was about 20 years ago.  So, my mom, brother and I went to give blood.  Thats when the trouble started.

Since I didn’t know what to expect, I watched as my mom gave blood and it was easy pesy.  My brother gave, same results.  Then it was my turn and th poking with the needle began.  I can’t tell you how many times she poked in my arm before she finally got a vein.  I was just about to tell her to either send someone else over or to forget the whole thing.  Come to find out my veins have a tendency to collapse.

Anyway, after she finally hit a vein and the blood was flowing, I laid their, squeezing the ball and after what seemed like quite awhile the nurse came over.  She looked at the bag and told me I had only filled it half way and that I was going to have to stop.   The bag should have filled much faster.

Well hell.  They even had to throw out the half filled bag because you can only store full bags.  WHAT A WASTE OF MY PRECIOUS FLUIDS!!

After I got home and hanging my head low from not being able to pull my part as a family member, my arm started hurting.  I pulled up my sleeve and was bruised from my shoulder to my wrist.  I ended up in the doctors office and bruised for quite some time.

It was years before I got enough nerve to give blood again and this time I explained what had happened before they put in the needle.  A guy came over, put the needle in and I filled the bottle in no time.  I couldn’t believe it.  I still had a little bit of bruising, but not like before.

I have given blood a few times, but the last couple of times gave me bad bruising again, so I feel its not my thing to do.  I can give little vials of blood with no problem.  Just not a whole bag.

Now on to American Idol.

If you have been reading my blog during this season, you know I have been an Adam fan.  I was so disappointed last night that he didn’t win.  But, now he won’t be obligated for a year to AI and get in the studio faster.  I have no doubts he won’t be a start.  Chris is a great singer, I just thought Adam did a much better job with all the songs he did during the season.

And what a concert it was last night.  Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Kiss and Queen!!  I loved it!!

And yes, you guessed it. I have to show a clip.

Have a wonderful day,

Favorite Week Day

Blog Prompt – I’m taking a survey. What is your favorite day of the week and tell me why?

When I was working, I loved and couldn’t wait for 5 pm on Friday.  i miss all those times meeting up with friends on Friday for a drink before we went home.  I always loved my time home away from work.

But now that I am semi-retired, all days are favorites and especially that I wake up everyday is a favorite day for me.

On to American Idol.

I just hate when it gets down to the final 4 because they are always so good and who can choose at this point, but I have been an Adam Lambert fan since seeing him in Hollywood.  Both he and Chris are great singers but there can only be one American Idol.

Good luck to both of them and they are both winners to me.

My Computer and Adam Lambert

Blog Prompt – “Communication: The art and technique of using words effectively to impart information or ideas.” That is what we are accomplishing here. A form of communication by using words effectively to impart information. But with the advent of the computer and the shortcuts used on the computer to convey ideas and emotions it appears they are becoming more prevalent in our day to day lives, as well.

How has communication changed since the computer became a household appliance?

Our computer is the hub of our household for sure.  Always looking up information.

My husband can find all the sports information that he needs to keep up with his football team.  Every morning when he gets up, he will turn on the computer, check out the latest with the Falcons and do a little research.  The draft is in a few weeks, so he is intently watching the forums right now.

I am always looking up information on Google, my new best friend.  I realized a while back that if you can’t find it on the internet, you can’t find it.  Of course, I use my computer to keep all my book keeping in line, my photos at a fingers touch and all my music is always on hand to listen to while I work.  I look up recipes, directions, my banking and I can shop! I much prefer having my purchases brought to my front door and I don’t have to drive. I also love my calendar that pops up everyday to tell me what my appointments are coming up.

When I got my degree in Computer Science back in the ’70′s, I had no idea that the personal computer would do what it can do now.

One of the things I love doing is watching videos on YouTube.com.  I love posting my favs on my blog and today I am posting Adam Lambert’s performance on American Idol last night.  I just love this young man’s voice and I feel he is the best that has been on American Idol.  And he’s nice on the eyes too!

Have a great time on your computer today,

My Answering Machine

Blog Prompt: Today is National Inane Answering Message Day. What would you really like to say on your answering machine?

We usually haven’t been getting sales pitches, you know what I mean, type of calls, until recently.

It’s all sales pitches to refinance your loan or help with your credit card and even though its computer generated calls, our private system we have with the phone company isn’t picking them up.

All I want to do is have my answering machine pick up and tell them that the mortage on my grass hut doesn’t need to be refinanced!!!!!

But I have found the most perfect answering machine message to let those annoying so and so’s listen to when they call you.

American Idol

My husband and I just love American Idol and now that the auditions are over and Hollywood week starts next week, I had to post a video of my fav audition still to this day.

Pasta Anyone?

Blog Prompt: On May 7, 1660, Isaack B. Fubine of Savoy, in The Hague, patents macaroni. What is your favorite macaroni dish?

I just love pasta and anything made with it!!  I guess my fav would be spaghetti and meatballs.  I have a great recipe that I use that has red wine, Italian sausage (I actually use turkey Italian flavored sausage) and not much tomatoes that is just yummy.  You just have to cook it all afternoon for it to be really good.

I love to fix Alfredo, lasagna, mac and cheese and pasta with just olive oil and garlic!!!!!!  YUMMY!!!!!  I could eat pasta everyday, but I know I would be the size of a barn.  But,  I think I will have spaghetti tonight for supper.  :)

American Idol last night was pretty good.  When David A. sang Love Me Tender, that just melted my heart.  Not too many people can sing Elvis and pull it off, but he did.  David Cook rocked the house again, Syesha Mercado was fantastic and then there was Jason Castro.  I just can’t vote for him anymore.  Last night it seemed he really wasn’t in the competition anymore, forgetting lyrics and bad song choice.  I have a feeling he will leave tonight and I wish him luck.

I am including the video of David A. singing Love Me Tender.  I hope you enjoy.

I also watched Dancing with the Stars and my boy, Jason Taylor, was in the bottom two and pulled if off for another week.  I hope he can make it to the finals.  I know the Dolphin’s can’t bring home the trophy, so maybe Jason can.

Now on to some sad news.

I now know I am getting old. I retired my lacy little bra’s yesterday to the Goodwill box. As I was cleaning out my pantie drawer, I found about 5 little, lacy bra’s stuffed in the corner. I was sad thinking about when I was much younger and loved wearing those little expensive bra’s.

Not any more!! I am all for comfort now. I did keep my lacy, very sexy, black bra. Every woman needs that special black bra, panties and of course, the classic black dress. When I wear those, I feel good and it will always keep my husbands eye on me.

Laugh and Faith

Let’s end the week with some fun. Post a joke, a funny story, a video…whatever makes you laugh.

I saw this clip the other day and I really enjoyed the laugh. I hope you do too.

I was watching American Idol on Thursday and I must give them very high marks for letting the finalists sing this wonderful song, Shout to the Lord. Idol ended the Wednesday night show with the same song, but edited the song a bit, but you still knew who they were singing to.

My heart is saddened to see how our liberal society is changing the way our country sees faith in any degree, when this country was based on Christian principals. I hope this is just a start of a growing trend of bringing back our faith back into society.

American Idol Favorite

Since the final 12 on American Idol were announced yesterday, it made me think of William Hung. He has always been my favorite to ever appear before the judges and he has never had professional musical training before! I hope you enjoy.
