Family Time and Layouts

Blog Prompt – What does your family time consist of?

Since my hubby and I are suppose to be retired, we do have some time on our hands to football and a few day trips now and again and our occasional “date” we enjoy so much.  But we also have a painting business to run, I have an online business and we also manage our rentals.  So we are busy sometimes and then we have some down time.  Just spending time with my hubby, no matter what we are doing, is special to me.

After the holidays are over my business will slow down and I will be able to catch up on the books and get ready for the dreaded tax season.  Yuk!!!!

I want to wish all my friends, family and blog readers a very Merry Christmas and I hope Santa brings you everything you truly want.

I have a couple of layouts to show off today.

The first one I used a kit called Frozen by April Staker.  So bright and yummy.  You can find it here.

The next layout I used Julie Marie Designs new kit called Frosty Santa and it is so cute and colorful.  You can find it here .

Mistletoe Fun and Layout

Blog Prompt – Things you would NEVER do for money

This prompt won’t take long.  My answer would be HAPPINESS!!  Oh, who wouldn’t want more money, but not for happiness.  Money is something to enjoy and help others with.

Many people quote, “Money is the root of all evil”, which isn’t really what that verse says.  The correct verse is, “For the love of money is the root of all evil”.   Loving money more than yourself, family and friends is wrong.   And we do seem to see a lot of that more and more.  Wealth isn’t a measurement of a person.  I consider wealth being my family, friends and my love for God.

Mistletoe Funny

I love cute and funny videos and here is one poking a little fun at being under the mistletoe.

Taking Christmas Pictures

Every year, my husband and I take some kind of Christmas picture for our cards.  Either we do it ourselves or use one from some where we had gone during the year.

Our day trip this year isn’t until next week and I’m afraid if I wait till then to take the picture and then send it in with the cards, it will be too late.  So, this year we tried the concept of sitting in front of the tree with the dog and trying to get a good picture using the auto picture take option on my camera.

After many takes,  only 1 picture came out that wasn’t fuzzy.  Of course, the dog wasn’t looking at the camera, the top of my head was cut off, you could see my bra, my hubby had that puzzled look on his face and just bad all around.  And who can see what the picture really looks like in the little bitty tiny screen after you take the picture?  So, thats why I take a bunch and hope at least one comes out good.

So now, we are going to try again and this time we will do like we did before and sit on the floor instead of kind of squating like we did this time.

The pictures I used in our 2006 Christmas card was done with the auto picture taker and I think I took about 20 pictures.  This was the 1st year with Ernest the dog and we wanted to make sure he was in the photo.  AFter all, he is part of our family.

After quite a few shots, we finally got one where the dog looked at the camera.  That one was actually pretty nice and worked out great.

I decided to scrap some of the goofy pictures we got that night with April Staker’s new kit called Frozen.  You can find it here and the colors are so bright and reminds me of snow and how it glitters.  I loved the Christmas lights in the kit.

Day Off and Layout

Blog Prompt – If I could take tomorrow off of work, I’d…

I would wake later and relax with coffee on the lanai and watch the birds at the bird feeder and enjoy conversation with my husband.  I would love to take a day trip or maybe do lunch with my hubby.  Relax in the afternoon with some recorded movies that are just waiting for me to watch.  You know the ones.  Those good chick flick.  I love watching Gone with the Wind when I am alone and cuddled up on the couch.

I wouldn’t make dinner or it would be done on the grill.  Let my husband take care of that.  ;)   I would read a lot, maybe go out and work in the yard a bit.  Just be lazy!!

Affraid

Blog Prompt – The thing that scares me the most is…

My biggest fear is being alone as I get older.  If my husband dies before me and my mother has passed on, it would just be me in Florida.  I have wonderful friends and I have lots to do, but that companionship that I never had until I met my husband of the past 6 years.  He makes me laugh so much and we enjoy each other’s company that I can’t imagine my time without him in my life.

April Staker has a new kit called Shiver that is so perfect for winter time and if you purchase the kit between November 11 – 13, you will receive an extra element pack.

I love this picture of my brother and I back in 1965.  This was his 1st snow.  We had lived in Hawaii for 5 years, so he grew up just knowing sun and heat.  When we moved back to Missouri, it was the middle of winter.  You can tell by the snowman, we weren’t experts at building one.

If My Dog Could Talk

Blog Prompt: Alan “Rocky” Lane (voice of Mr. Ed – the talking horse – and actor in Red Ryder and more) died of bone cancer October 27, 1973. If you could give a voice to something in your life that can’t talk, what would it be?

Thats easy!!  My dog.  I would love to know what he is thinking when I talk to him.  I have told my husband that I would love to hear what he has on his mind for 24 hours.

Can you imagine the conversation:

ME:  Ernest, lets go for a walk.

ERNEST:  Do I have too?  I would rather play outside or do nothing but take a nap.  I don’t need a walk, I already pottied today and you won’t let me play with the dogs that pass by anyway.  I don’t like wearing that leash either.  I just want to run free!

ME:  But you need your exercise.

ERNEST:  I look fine, you are the one that needs the exercise.  Oh, by the way.  You owe me a treat.  You forgot one 2 weeks, 1 day ago.  Give it up.

Maybe I should rethink this…….hhhhhmmmmmm

Veggie Day and Layout

Blog prompt: October 1 is Vegetarian Day. Tell what your favorite vegetable is or the one you hate the most.

I love, love, LOVE sweet corn!!!!  Those golden, sweet, juicy little kernels that just explode happiness in my mouth every summer.  Where I am from in Missouri, we always had a Sweet Corn festival July 4th and you could get the best sweet corn anywhere.  Right off the stalk, right in the pot and right to my plate.  You don’t need any butter or salt because the taste is great all by itself.

Fried okra, cucumbers, anything to make a salad, broccoli and cauliflower.  I just love summer time veggies.  Here in Florida you can get a lot of those veggies just about any time of the year.  Thank goodness for Farmer’s Markets!!

Now on to the veggie I hate the most!!!!  Well that would be the dreaded tomato!  YUK!!!!!!  I mean when God was out in his garden, for some odd reason, he didn’t let the tomato finish growing.  All that gooey stuff that comes out it when you cut it open!!!!!  Look at the picture to the right and all that nastiness inside that thing!  Now as long as its tomato sauce or in a salad, chopped up very small, I will eat them that way and maybe in a Bloody Mary or two……hehehehe  But that’s it!!!  Not right off the vine and eat it like an apple.  It’s upsetting my tummy as I think about it.  My dad loved tomatoes and he always said, “That girl did not come from my loins and not like tomatoes.”  Sorry dad. :)

April Staker has added to her kit Farmers Market with an add on kit and its just beautiful.  I just love all those elements.  You can check it out here.
