Rediscover My Passion

Blog Prompt: What lost passions would you like to rediscover?

I would love to start painting again with oils and water colors.  I use to do this a lot when I was in school and have had some paintings shown in area art shows.  When my husband and I were dating and the first time he was at my parents house, he noticed my pictures my mom displayed.  He asked me why I quit painting and I didn’t have any excuse.  Life, I’m sure, got in the way after high school.

So, on our wedding day, he gave me a brand new set of oils and wanted me to start back up.  Well, those oils are still in the box and in my craft closet.  There are a lot of painting classes given in the area and maybe, someday I will take one them.  I need too before that old age takes over my hands.

Something else I would love to rediscover is being a young mother again.  I sure do miss all those wonderful times when my son was a baby.

E Groups

Let’s take a stroll down a more recent memory lane. How many e-groups to you belong to that you actively participate in? What kind are they?

I belong to quite a few yahoo groups that discuss crafts and sewing.  Two of my passions right now.  I love making my bows and hearing other great ideas and shopping for the best deals on supplies.  The group buys on supplies is a great idea and well worth it for me.  This way, I don’t have to buy huge amounts of supplies and we split all the costs.  Now I don’t have to find a big area to store all my inventory.

I also love sewing with my new machine and my sewing groups are full of wonderfully talented women and their suggestions are always right on.  They have taught me how to make better appliqués and monograms and how to use the software I recently purchased.  Wonderful group that I visit every day.

I also belong to The Dog Whisperer’s group to find out how other people are handling their dogs like my dog, Ernest T. Bass.  This is also a wonderful group with a ton of knowledgeable dog people.

Sewing

Blog Prompt: Today is Sewing Machine Day. If you could sew, what is something you would love to make or if you already sew, what was your favorite thing you made. Describe it.

I love to sew and use to sew all my sons little jumpers when he was a toddler and I have made curtains, pillows, clothes and other items.  I haven’t sewn clothes in awhile because patterns are almost $20.00 each now.  Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy clothes then to make them.

I took sewing in Jr. High and the outfit I made was my very 1st complete item I did.  I wore it the last day of school and I remember strutting down the halls in my navy blue jumpsuit with a knee length short sleeve jacket.  Remember, this was 1971 and that was the style.  I wish I had a picture of it to show off.

My latest sewing adventure are these golf club covers for my mom’s clubs.  I just had to make them shocking pink and apple and I know she is 70 years old, but I bet there won’t be any other’s like it on the golf course.  I put her initial on them, so she wouldn’t forget who they belong too.

These are for her birthday and I hope she doesn’t read my blog.  They are just too cute!!

My next item to sew is to recover a 1970′s gold velvet chair with material that is more updated.  My father use to upholstery furniture all the time, so I hope I picked up a few tips from him.  I will post a picture later.

Talent, Sci-fi movie and layout

So where did you get your talent?

As long as I can remember, I have loved to do crafts, paint, draw, sew, anything like that.  And now I am using those crafty talents at my business, Personalized Creations.

So, where did I get my talent?  I really don’t know!!  There really isn’t anyone in my family that loves being really crafty.  I guess this was something that I just learned on my own.  My aunt and mom love to scrapbook, but that’s about it.  And I do have a cousin that is very talented when it comes to drawing.  But where did she get her talent from?  hhhhhmmmmmmm  I must call my mom and aunt and see if there was someone in our family that was crafty.

I have always been the kind of person to figure out a problem or read up on what I want to do.  Just like learning to digi scrap.  I’m tellin ya, if it hadn’t been for all the wonderful CT’s and designers, I wouldn’t have learned how to make any layout.

I should scrap a page about my craft stuff.

Oh and btw, for those of you who want great blog prompts every day, the same one’s I use, you will find there here.  Glynis, Pat and Tink come up with some great prompts

I watched a great sci-fi movie last night and I must say Cloverfield is the best that has come around in a very long time.  This movie is seen through the eyes of someone who just happen to have his video camera with him when New York came under attack.  It’s a short move, about an hour and a half and has a great monster in it.  The movie gets to the point and I loved how they did the ending.  It’s rated PG and is available on DVD.  I watched it on Pay Per View in HD, so I could get great sound quality.

I give it 5 stars
