You know you are from Florida if??

You know you’re a Floridian if….
Socks are only for bowling.

You never use an umbrella because you know the rain will be over in five minutes.

A good parking place has nothing to do with distance from the store, but everything to do with shade.

Your winter coat is made of denim.

You can tell the difference between fire ant bites and mosquito bites.

You’re younger than thirty but some of your friends are over 65.

Anything under 70 degrees is chilly.

You’ve driven through Yeehaw Junction.

You know that no other grocery store can compare to Publix.

Every other house in your neighborhood had blue roofs in 2004-2005.

You know that anything under a Category 3 just isn’t worth waking up for.

You dread love bug season.

You are on a first name basis with the Hurricane list. They aren’t

Hurricane Charley or Hurricane Frances.

You know them as Andrew, Charley , Frances , Ivan and Jeanne.

You know what a snowbird is and when they’ll leave.

You think a six-foot alligator is actually pretty average.

‘Down South’ means Key West.

Flip-flops are everyday wear. Shoes are for business meetings and church,

but you HAVE worn flip flops to church before.

You have a drawer full of bathing suits, and one sweatshirt.

You get annoyed at the tourists who feed seagulls.

A mountain is any hill 100 feet above sea level.

You know the four seasons really are: hurricane season, love bug season, tourist season and summer.

You’ve hosted a  hurricane party.

You can  pronounce Okeechobee and Kissimmee.

You understand why it’s better to have a friend  with a boat, than have a boat yourself.

You’ve worn shorts and used the A/C on Christmas and New Years.

You recognize Miami-Dade as ‘ Northern  Cuba . ‘

Everyone have a great day,

It’s Spring Time

Blog prompt: April 12 was Easter. For me, Easter is also a big celebration of spring, a time of rebirth. How does the spring season make you feel? Do you have any spring traditions that you do?

I love spring time!  Nature is starting to open up and turn green and all the beautiful colors are starting to explode.  The weather is just perfect and not too hot.  The rainy season hasn’t started, so I really enjoy going outside to work in the yard. All the butterflies will start coming around and the birds are busy at my feeders.

Living here in Florida, I can pretty much have flowers all year around.  I just planted all the pansies and violas for the winter season here in my pots.  The violas are so fragrant and beautiful.  But, in the spring all the azaleas are blooming and the colors are just beautiful.  This year they seemed to be extremely beautiful.  My hydrangeas are starting to get heads for beautiful blooms soon.  Another southern beauty.

I just love planting all the flowers and cutting back all the dead items we had from the hard winter this year.  Now the yard looks pretty much back to normal, except for the palms.  We will just have to wait for new growth and live with burned palms for awhile.

Enjoy your spring day,

Favorite Time of the Year

Blog Prompt – Choose your favorite season. Name the season and explain why it is your favorite.

I have a layout showing some of the flowers here in Florida in the spring.

View from my window

View from my window (literal or mind)

The window is in my office and since I am at my desk most of the day, I am constantly looking out the window to see if I can spy on someone, watch the occasional lizard crawl along the window or watch the skies for rain.

As you can see from the picture, my view consists of the neighbor’s garage door and little bit of landscaping.  Definitely, not a million dollar view!  Since I live in a 55+ community in Florida, there isn’t much activity in the streets anyway.  A golf cart or car may pass now and again or the retired couple taking a stroll together.  There are a few dog owners walking down the street with their little dogs and when the neighbor across the street has a fight with her spouse, that’s worth watching.  Yes folks, I am a nosey neighbor!  Someone has to do that job and I must say I qualify!

Here lately though, my main cause to peep out the window is to watch the skys.  It’s hurricane season and we have been having daily thunderstorms and lighting.  We are in desperate need of water here in Florida and from April 9th till June 11th, we didn’t receive one drop at our house.  Two months without a drop!!  Our grass and landscaping was really showing the stress and the rain we have been getting lately has really greened up the landscaping for sure.

Favorite Family Vacation

Last week we focused on recent vacations. So this week take a walk down memory lane for a childhood vacation you hold dear.

Our whole family took a week vacation, a few years back, to Destin, FL.  It was my 40th birthday and I wanted to go to Florida so bad and what a great time we had!  My brother, my son and myself went snorkeling, swimming at the beach, we stayed in a great condo, my son had a blast at the Big Kahuna water slide and taking a parachute ride over the water.  He told me we didn’t want to see what he saw swimming close to shore!  ugh

But, I think our best time on the trip was when we went to the Billy Bo Leg’s parade.  It was kind of like a very small version of a Mardi Gra parade.  My dad wasn’t too thrilled about going and he sat on the side of the road and waited.  Well, the first float that came by had a lot of, well, belly dancers.  My dad wasn’t really paying much attention, until one very attractive, well built young lady came over, doing her little belly dancing moves, and put a necklace on him.  Very close!  Well, from that moment on, the parade had his undivided attention.

There were tons of floats, throwing necklaces, plastic cups and just junk, but what fun we had the best time trying to get the most stuff.  After we got back to the condo, we all poured out our jewels and treasures to see what we all had.  We took tons of pictures of all of us wearing all our necklaces.  The picture on the right are of my mom and son with all their treasures.

We have taken a couple other family trips like that and some day I will tell you about our Trip to Las Vegas.  What another great time we had.

I’m so glad for these memories and how they make me laugh.  I hope that if our family takes another trip, that my dad will be watching over us and enjoying it with us.

Insurance

It’s almost hurricane season again and I am always worried if my homeowners insurance will take care of things if we are hit by all the water, wind or tornado. I was reading the other day where some one’s car was destroyed by a tornado and their car insurance wouldn’t pay because it was an act of God.

These bring up interesting questions. So, I started doing some research for insurance in my state of Florida and found where I can get free insurance quotes and also find insurance agents close by. I was able to view Florida insurance quotes and also a page for the city close to me to find agents to discuss homeowners, life, auto, health, business and long term care insurance. All these helpful hints can be found at the bottom of each page.

Living in Florida has its challenges, but keeping up with the latest insurance quotes will save me money in the long run.
