Blog Prompt: Since the Super Bowl is over, I would love to know what sports women really love to participate in or watch.
After the Super Bowl is over each year, my husband and I just look at each other and can’t wait until August when football season starts back up.
I have always loved football and participated in bowling for almost 30 years. I got hooked on football because a local boy played for the Miami Dolphins during the 70′s and when ever they were on tv, you just had to watch the local boy. I watched his team go undefeated and then end up winning 2 Super Bowls. After he stopped playing I kept watching because of Dan Marino. What a great quarterback he was and always will be.
How ironic that our area boy that played on the Dolphins was raised by deaf parents and his mother bowled with me for years until she wasn’t able to. What a wonderful woman she is. She taught us all the dirty words by sign language. I missed her when she had to stop bowling.
And of course, you just had to love some of the Super Bowl commercials and my favs were the Budwiser commercials. I am posting the videos below.
And the sweetest one of them all. It made me tear up.
Blog Prompt: Today is Fruitcake Toss Day. Have you ever eaten fruitcake? What are your feelings about it?
This won’t take long.
FRUITCAKE IS NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve and you got to ring it in with someone special.
My husband and I watched the very disappointing Georgia Tech game and then after that watched the most amazing motorcycle jump we have ever seen. Before he made the jump, we watched Dick Clark count down for the ball drop in New York. Bless His Heart! He does have a hard time counting after his stroke.
Back to the jump.
Robbie Maddison is a very young Evil Knievel and is famous for his jumps. This year he jumped the arch at the Paris Hotel in Vegas and I have a video showing this. Its worth a peek at it.
A friend and I went to the Sarah Palin rally at The Villages in Florida. This little retirement community is about 20 minutes from my little retirement community, so we thought, why not!! How many times do you ever get to see your candidate in person.
Let me set the stage. It was in the 80′s, moderate humidity, very sunny and very, very hot!! Typical Florida weather for this time of the year. Gov. Palin wasn’t to speak until 4:30 pm, but we knew we had to get there very early because we had heard over 20,000 people were going to be there. We left at 11, traffic wasn’t bad and parked pretty quickly. Took the shuttle to where we were to stand in line to get into the secure area.
Thats when the extreme heat started. I had my water, really big hat and my little hand held Georgia Bulldog fan to keep me cool. We stood in line with 70,000 of our closest friends for at least an hour and a half and after we were let into the secure area, checking our bags and items went very smoothly. By then we were famished, it was getting hotter and we needed food and more water. We finally found the hot dog stand and at that time, water was being passed out.
Just as the Star Bangled Banner was starting, one of those really bad hot flashes hit me and I had to sit down on the curb in the shade. My friend got us both a hot dog and after resting, drinking more water and having a little food, we both felt much better. By the way. It was so nice to say the Pledge of Allegiance and saying, Under God in public!! Where is our country going when people want to ban what our country was founded on.
Now it was time to figure out where we were going to stand for the speech. Realizing we still had more than a couple of hours to stand around, we decided to find a tree and wait it out. There were huge screens in 4 different places, the speakers were really good and the shade from the tree made the time go by much cooler.
We were also next to the stage where Aaron Tippin played a few songs, plus his new song – Drill Here, Drill Now! That was fun to watch him.
As I listened to Gov. Palin and how she honored our military and what our country needs to strive for, my heart filled with joy. I was listening to a wonderful woman vying for the Vice Presidency of this great country!! The crowd was excited and soon I was forgetting about how hot it was and how proud I was to be there.
I have a video clip that shows the rally. The song is kind of corny, but cute. So if you don’t want to listen to the song, just turn off the volume.
On to football!
The next part of the day was when I went home and watched my Miami Dolphins play the World Champion New England Patriots. We spanked them 38 to 13 and the sports world, along with the Patriot fans, are in complete shock!!! My team was 1 – 15 last year and we broke the Patriots regular winning streak!!!!!!!!
I know most of you women don’t care that I am showing video clips of the game, but I can’t help myself. This is the biggest win for us in a very long time.
Blog Prompt: Sports I love to watch or participate in
I love sports and have for a very long time. I use to participate in track and other sports while in High School and I bowled for about 30 years. I loved my bowling and miss it with a passion, but I haven’t picked up my ball now in about 4 years. I think I burned myself out bowling all those years. I still watch it sometimes on tv just to hear my husband say, “That’s not a sport”.
My favorite sport to watch would be football. My husband and I faithfully watch our teams during the fall. We both feel empty when the season is over. I am so proud of Mizzou this year and how well they did. My husband is a big Georgia fan, and its kind of hard to try and compare any team that’s not in the SEC. But, Mizzou was ranked higher than Georgia this year and that just tickled me. We love our football!!
