Working on the Toilet, Buzz and the Mountains

I don’t know if any of you have been keeping up with the recent space shuttle, but one of the mail reason’s for going this time was to fix the toilet in the International Space Station.  There is only one for everyone up there and its been broke for awhile now.  I mean, think about it.  Where was it all going if the pooper wasn’t working?? At this very moment, the toilet is being fixed and should be functioning soon. I’m sure the crew will be so pleased.

I also understand that Buzz Lightyear is one of the crew members this time.  So be sure to let the kids see what his adventures are in space at www.nasa.gov.  There is a great area there for kids and they get to hear Buzz as he is in space.

I wanted to show some more pictures of our stay in Georgia while we were in the mountains. I have never seen such beauty in my life. The view of the mountains from our friends home was more than my husband and I could take. That expression, “It takes your breath away”, is true! When the sun came up and when it settled behind the mountains and when it rained. I just don’t have the right words to express the beauty of it all. I hope the pictures help.

These views are from the deck of the house.

USS Arizona Memorial and Picnic in Georgia

Blog Prompt: On May 30, 1922, The Lincoln Memorial is dedicated today in Washington, D C, by Chief Justice William Howard Taft. What is your favorite historical monument and why?

While my dad was stationed in Hawaii, back in the 60’s, I went to the USS Arizona a couple times when my grandmother’s came to visit us there.

Even though I was young, I remember standing there and looking at all the names of the men that died on the very spot I was standing.   I would stand there and look in the ocean where you can still see the ship and the oil still leaking from it.  I remember how it bothered me so much that some of those men were “daddy’s” and that my daddy was doing the same kind of job and he worked on a ship at that time.

To this day, I will never forget what all those “daddy’s” sacrificed for our great country and how proud I was of my daddy for being so brave.

One of the lazy days we had in Georgia was spent at a really nice park. The kids got to play all afternoon, grandpa got to play ball with his grandson and son and we also had a nice picnic.

The playground they have was for all different ages.  The little one just had a ball on the slides and equipment for his size.  The two older ones were able to play on equipment made for their size.  There is also a great walking trail that you can walk your dog on.  Ernest would love that for sure.

Great park for everyone and we all had a great time!

Shuttle Flight, Anniversary and More of Georgia

Blog Prompt: On May 29, 1996, Space Shuttle STS 77 (Endeavour 11), lands. Would you want to take a ride on the Space Shuttle? Why or why not?

The picture to the left shows what I see from my back yard when the shuttle blasts off.  Someday I will get over to Kennedy Space Center and see what the space program is all about.

The idea of going in the shuttle hasn’t really crossed my mind.  The people that do that have to be some of the bravest people ever!!  So, yes, I am a chicken.  I admit it.  I prefer to stay on the ground.

Today is also my 6th wedding anniversary with the most wonderful man in the world. I know I go on and on about him in my past posts, but he is one special man for sure. These past 6 years have been an extreme joy for me and I hope it lasts for many, many more years to come.

Someday I will post about how we met online. hehehehe

Our next adventure in Georgia was to go to #7 grand daughter’s dedication at church. She is such a cutie pie!!

Oh my goodness the day was hectic!!  My sweet DIL took her husband’s mother and myself to get a pedicure for Mother’s Day!  What a treat!  At the same time, all the men were suppose to be getting themselves and the children ready before we got home.  Which they did!  There were a few loose ends to tie up before we walked out the door, but we all managed to get to the church on time and even the kids still looked great!  Trying to get 4 children and 6 adults ready and be at the church on time seemed impossible. But, we made it just in time and everyone still looked decent for church.

The dedication service was very sweet and it meant a lot to my husband that we could be there with his family for this special day.

My husbands daughter planned a wonderful reception afterwards and it was nice to visit with other family members and friends.   This also meant that all 8 grandchildren were in a confined area for a period of time.  Oh, and there were other children present.  My husband and I just sat back and watched as the young parents were trying to keep their children at bay and we just smiled and laughed.   Grandparents can do that you know.

I also had a chance to take a picture of my husband and his 2 children. When we are together, we try to do so much in just a short period of time and I forget to take family pictures. This time I made an effort to get them in at least one shot.

My husband has wonderful children and I am so glad to be in the same family now.  I only have one child, so its such a joy to be around a large family.  God has truely blessed us.

Female Vet and Georgia Trip

Blog Prompt: On May 27, 1997, the first all female (20 British women) team reaches North Pole. If you could be the first person to reach somewhere, where would it be? What would it be like?

When I was back in high school, many, many years ago, I wanted to be the 1st female vet in the area.  I loved and still do, all animals and lived in an area where there were a lot of farm animals and we always had a dog around.  I thought that would be the most dream job ever.  But, there were only a handful of vet schools back then and I wasn’t able to go due to finances.  So, I got my degree in computer science.    Which when you think about it, back in the 70’s, there wasn’t much talk about computers.

After all those years, the vet we use today is a female.  She is wonderful and loves Ernest.  And thats whats most important.

Over the next few blogs, I will show pictures and tell of our adventure this past week in Georgia.

Our first day there was spent at my husband’s grandsons Kindergarten graduation. Now how cute was that!! They each had on their cap and gown’s, sang songs, did a few things that they learned in school, proudly said their bible verses and received their diplomas. I just loved every minute of it.

Jack and the Beanstalk and Our Georgia Trip

Blog Prompt: On May 14, 1991, the World’s Largest Burrito was created at 1,126 lbs. Describe the largest thing you have ever made.

beanstalkIt’s funny that this prompt came up today.  Right now, as I type this, the largest tomato plant I have ever grown is in my back yard.  Not the tomatoes, just the plant.

Where my husband and I live, we only have about 10 feet for a back yard.  Most of the 10 feet is my butterfly garden and I have one of those large whiskey barrels that I have put flowers in before.  This year, we thought we would put one tomato plant in it and see if we get a few of those delicious vegetables for the summer time.

I have grown a few tomato plants in my life time, but I have never seen one get this big!  And its growing in a container on top of that!  I’ve only feed it one time with Miracle Grow and I have babied it a bit, but not to cause Jack’s Beanstalk to grow in my backyard!!  There are quite a few fruits on the vine, so we might be getting more than just a few tomatoes out of this plant.

When the fruit starts turning red, I will take a picture just to show you what kind of plant it has become.

My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for Georgia to take care of a few things.

  • 1 pre-kindergarten graduation
  • 1 Kindergarten graduation
  • 1 ballet recital
  • see the new baby, which makes #8
  • Attend the new babies dedication service at church
  • Get new family pictures made of my husband, his children and grandchildren
  • Visit my husbands mother
  • Visit with both of my husband’s children
  • Stay at both of their homes, divided equally of course
  • Travel to the Georgia Mountains to visit a good friend of my husband and his wife
  • Take a quick tour of the mountains.  (I’ve never been there before)
  • Come back to where we use to live in Georgia to take check on our rental property.
  • Come home after a whirl wind week long trip

Think we can get all that done in a week??  Oh, and all the grandchildren are under the age of 7 and will all be together at one point!  But you know what, all those children are so well behaved when they are together.  Yes, they are a bit loud, but what children aren’t?  I can’t wait to get all those hugs and kisses from all of them and I hope to come back with tons of pictures.

So, I will be back to blogging after Memorial Day and I hope everyone has a great and relaxing holiday and I will see you when I get back.
