A Sauntering Day

Blog Prompt – Today is World Sauntering Day. Sauntering is form of strolling. Where would you saunter to on this day?

Well, since the weather has been in the 90′s with high humidity here in Florida, I saunter anywyere I can.  It’s just too hot to walk fast for any reason.  And that reminds me, I will have to get out in the heat this afternoon to go to Walmart.   I hate getting back into a hot car.

We received some great pictures of our grandchildren today and I had to share some with you.

USS Arizona Memorial and Picnic in Georgia

Blog Prompt: On May 30, 1922, The Lincoln Memorial is dedicated today in Washington, D C, by Chief Justice William Howard Taft. What is your favorite historical monument and why?

While my dad was stationed in Hawaii, back in the 60′s, I went to the USS Arizona a couple times when my grandmother’s came to visit us there.

Even though I was young, I remember standing there and looking at all the names of the men that died on the very spot I was standing.   I would stand there and look in the ocean where you can still see the ship and the oil still leaking from it.  I remember how it bothered me so much that some of those men were “daddy’s” and that my daddy was doing the same kind of job and he worked on a ship at that time.

To this day, I will never forget what all those “daddy’s” sacrificed for our great country and how proud I was of my daddy for being so brave.

One of the lazy days we had in Georgia was spent at a really nice park. The kids got to play all afternoon, grandpa got to play ball with his grandson and son and we also had a nice picnic.

The playground they have was for all different ages.  The little one just had a ball on the slides and equipment for his size.  The two older ones were able to play on equipment made for their size.  There is also a great walking trail that you can walk your dog on.  Ernest would love that for sure.

Great park for everyone and we all had a great time!

Shuttle Flight, Anniversary and More of Georgia

Blog Prompt: On May 29, 1996, Space Shuttle STS 77 (Endeavour 11), lands. Would you want to take a ride on the Space Shuttle? Why or why not?

The picture to the left shows what I see from my back yard when the shuttle blasts off.  Someday I will get over to Kennedy Space Center and see what the space program is all about.

The idea of going in the shuttle hasn’t really crossed my mind.  The people that do that have to be some of the bravest people ever!!  So, yes, I am a chicken.  I admit it.  I prefer to stay on the ground.

Today is also my 6th wedding anniversary with the most wonderful man in the world. I know I go on and on about him in my past posts, but he is one special man for sure. These past 6 years have been an extreme joy for me and I hope it lasts for many, many more years to come.

Someday I will post about how we met online. hehehehe

Our next adventure in Georgia was to go to #7 grand daughter’s dedication at church. She is such a cutie pie!!

Oh my goodness the day was hectic!!  My sweet DIL took her husband’s mother and myself to get a pedicure for Mother’s Day!  What a treat!  At the same time, all the men were suppose to be getting themselves and the children ready before we got home.  Which they did!  There were a few loose ends to tie up before we walked out the door, but we all managed to get to the church on time and even the kids still looked great!  Trying to get 4 children and 6 adults ready and be at the church on time seemed impossible. But, we made it just in time and everyone still looked decent for church.

The dedication service was very sweet and it meant a lot to my husband that we could be there with his family for this special day.

My husbands daughter planned a wonderful reception afterwards and it was nice to visit with other family members and friends.   This also meant that all 8 grandchildren were in a confined area for a period of time.  Oh, and there were other children present.  My husband and I just sat back and watched as the young parents were trying to keep their children at bay and we just smiled and laughed.   Grandparents can do that you know.

I also had a chance to take a picture of my husband and his 2 children. When we are together, we try to do so much in just a short period of time and I forget to take family pictures. This time I made an effort to get them in at least one shot.

My husband has wonderful children and I am so glad to be in the same family now.  I only have one child, so its such a joy to be around a large family.  God has truely blessed us.

Illegal fashion and more about Georgia

Blog prompt: On May 28, 1923, the Attorney General says it is legal for women to wear trousers anywhere. Describe a certain fashion that you wished would be illegal to wear.

I just HATE what the fashion world is portraying to our young girls today.  Showing way too much skin, skirts and shorts way too short, too much belly, skin tight and what’s up with all the cleavage now???  And here’s another one.  Why is it sooooooo important for guys to wear their pants down so low that their underwear is showing??

Our children today have a tough enough time growing up and the saddest part of this story is, we, as a country, are letting our children walk around looking like that and not saying NO to them when its necessary.

The next item on the agenda of things to do in Georgia while we were there, was to attend one of the grand daughter’s ballet recital. OH MY GOSH!! The recital was called “The Ugly Duckling”, a story we all know, and it was so cute to see all those little 5 year old girls portraying their certain part. Our grand daughter was a snow flake. And as far as I’m concerned, she was the best. :)

The best part of the recital was it only lasted about 15 mintues. Which was great!! I have been to some recitals where they last all day long and I know some of you parents know what I mean.

Isn’t she the cutest snowflake!!

Female Vet and Georgia Trip

Blog Prompt: On May 27, 1997, the first all female (20 British women) team reaches North Pole. If you could be the first person to reach somewhere, where would it be? What would it be like?

When I was back in high school, many, many years ago, I wanted to be the 1st female vet in the area.  I loved and still do, all animals and lived in an area where there were a lot of farm animals and we always had a dog around.  I thought that would be the most dream job ever.  But, there were only a handful of vet schools back then and I wasn’t able to go due to finances.  So, I got my degree in computer science.    Which when you think about it, back in the 70′s, there wasn’t much talk about computers.

After all those years, the vet we use today is a female.  She is wonderful and loves Ernest.  And thats whats most important.

Over the next few blogs, I will show pictures and tell of our adventure this past week in Georgia.

Our first day there was spent at my husband’s grandsons Kindergarten graduation. Now how cute was that!! They each had on their cap and gown’s, sang songs, did a few things that they learned in school, proudly said their bible verses and received their diplomas. I just loved every minute of it.
