Sibling and Layout

Blog prompt: Today is National Sibling Day. If you have a sibling, describe your relationship. If you don’t, write about someone else’s relationship with a sibling.
siblings

Yes, I have a little brother but by looking at him though, you would think he was my big brother. Our family is not small in frame at all and when you put my “little” brother next to me, he is a Mr. Atlas without working on it. Beautiful wavy hair, a great smile, always making me laugh and a great father and husband.

I have tons and tons of stories about my brother and how he use to annoy me to no end when I was younger. Come to think of it, he still does annoy me! But, my best stories of him are of recent.

He married for the 1st time at the age of 42 and became a father for the 1st time a couple years later to a wonderful son named Denver. My parents now have 2 grandchildren 25 years apart. I don’t get to see my brother much now since I live in Florida, but we still see each other at least once a year.

But the thing I will always be most proud of my brother for is that he has given many years of his life to our military. He recently spent a year in Iraq with his National Guard unit and missed the birth of his only child. Those were long days while he was gone, but he has made a commitment to his country and he will always stand by that.  He will retire soon from the National Guard after 20 years and I know he will be glad to see that extra retirement money in  a few years.

The kit I used is by April Staker

What I Need To Do This Month and Layout

Blog prompt: Name eight things that you want to accomplish in the month of April.

Oh wow!!

1.  Wake up every morning and thank God for the wonderful day and my life.

2.  Get my butterfly garden back in shape.  (This past winter burned and killed everything and I have to replace all the plants)

3.  Get all my CT work done.

4.  Prepare my blog prompts for May and post in as many blogs as I can.

5.  Visit with my mom more.

6.  Do the best I can in our painting business.  We are starting to get a lot of jobs and I always want to make sure when I leave that house, that the job we did is the best possible.

7.  Take the dog for more walks and spend some time with him.  Now that we are working more, he has to stay in his cage more.

8.  LIVE, LOVE and LAUGH!!

And everyday, I make sure to have the best day with my husband.

Karma and Layout

Blog prompt: (April 4 was Tangible Karma Day) Giving of your time, of your love, of your talents, of your “extras”… Tangible Karma™ Day celebrates when giving feels as good as receiving. What will you do today to increase your karma?

It’s funny that this prompt came up today.  This past weekend my husband and I helped host a 60th birthday party for our neighbor.  He works so hard and is one of the nicest people I have ever met.  His wife is ill and he also has to take care of her, their home and work a part time job.

the-age-spotsMy husband and I felt he needed a day for himself and have a good laugh or two.  So, my husband took a couple of oldie songs, changed the lyrics around and formed a group called The Age Spots.  Thank goodness we know a couple of really good singers.  The song “YMCA” was changed to “AARP” and the group dressed up as their version of The Village People.  You can see them in the picture above.  The birthday boy is in black.  We also made tshirts with his picture on them.

We also took a few pictures of the birthday boy’s past life, changed them around a bit and made a short little video clip.  We also fixed foods that he enjoyed.  I didn’t know 60+ could have so much fun!

The show wasn’t perfect for sure and my boom box had serious technical problems, but the birthday boy laughed all afternoon.

That’s all I needed to see.  He really needed a day off and he told Glenn and I that he will remember this day forever.  His pour cheeks were hurting from laughing so much.  Good karma was busting from the seams that day for sure.

Postage Going Up and Layout

Blog prompt: Today is Pony Express Day. If the post office decided to increase the cost to mail a letter, what would you have to say about this?

Of course I don’t like it, who does?  I usually buy a roll of stamps and it lasts me just about a year.  And I might have to buy a few 1 cent stamps to make up for the few stamps I have left.  I think this next roll will be the forever stamps, and I won’t have to buy 1 cent stamps anymore.

I know the internet has put a squeeze on the Post Office and I know I don’t send that many things  in the mail that need regular stamps.  I do use USPS for my business and I print out my postage for all my boxes.  I love their website for that and its easy to use.

I have a feeling that the price of stamps will go up every year for awhile and also, I see USPS stopping service on at least one day of the week.

Julie Marie Designs and Paula Duncan have a collabe kit out now called Rain Rain and you can find it at Digital Candy.

And here is a layout using this beautiful kit.

Daily Sounds and Layout

Blog Prompt – Close your eyes. Listen. What all do you hear? Can you describe it in detail? Once you opened your eyes, did what you thought you heard and actually heard coincide?

When I close my eyes in my office, I hear a few birds, someone mowing their yard and my husband watching the NFL channel.  Behind me I can hear my dog snoring during his morning nap.  These are sounds that I hear every morning and they make me feel like home.

While my husband was gone last week to visit his mother, a lot of those sounds were gone and it made me feel very lonely.  I missed him very much and was glad he was home.  Even though I really HATE those snoring noises he has at night.

Julie Marie Designs has a collab kit called Girls Night Out with Danielle Corbitt.  This is such a fun kit and I love it.  You can find it only at Digital Candy.   Where Julie is their featured designer!!

And here is my layout using this kit. The picture is of my mom and her friends in their Derby hats they made.  I also used Julie’s Date Strips.

Being a Mom and Layout

Blog Prompt – What being a mother means

There is nothing like being a mother.  I only had one child, a boy, and it was magical.  I miss all the times he would crawl in my lap just because, come looking for me because he needed me and myself, that wonderful feeling of being needed.  I really miss the baby being all grown up, even though, in my eyes, he will always be……my baby.

That baby will be 30 years old this year and is teaching music in high school.  He loves being a teacher and he loves playing his violin.  He is also writing music for school band programs and has been published.  His first song he wrote was in honor of his grandfather who passed away a year ago.

The layout below shows off my little boy and I love the word art used.

Julie Marie Designs has a great new kit out called Midnight Romance.  I love the colors in this one and you can find it here.

I went a little out of the box and made my layout with a few cute pictures I had of the grandchildren with their face painted from Disney World.  I used a ton of Julies elements from other kits, Deck the Halls and Love Hearts.  I also used Brigit Kerr’s glitter red splat.
