Armed Forces Day

Blog Prompt – This weekend is Armed Forces today. This holiday is celebrated by many countries and I would love to hear about someone you know who you admire in the Armed Forces.

I can’t describe in words how much it means to see someone in uniform and the sacrifices they are giving to our country.

I was raised the first part of my life as a Navy baby.   My father retired from the Navy after 20 years and my brother is still serving in the National Guard.  He will soon retire from it after 20 years.

My husband spent a few years in the Air Force as did his father during WWII in the Army.  He had 6 members of his family in the same war and they all returned home safely.

My hat goes off to each and every one of you and I thank God everyday for you and what you are doing for our country.

I have a few layouts I have done over the years to show my appreciation of family members I would like to share with you.

A layout I did for my brother with a poem my husband wrote to him while he was deployed to Iraq.  His son was born while he was gone and my husband wrote the poem from my nephew’s point of view.

My father before he was my dad back in the early 50′s on his ship on one of his deployments.  His work room was also where he would bed down.

Ball of Fuzz and a Layout

Blog Prompt – Touch something close to you. Write about it, the texture, color, shape, etc.

ernestBoisterous, playful,  animated and excited when playing, and he loves to run around and be active.  So full of life, feisty, mischievous and love to tease.  Very protective, handsome, sleek and muscular and so soft to the touch.  Doesn’t like to be alone and tends to drool a lot.  Very strong willed and snores too much.  Always happy and has unconditional love for us, no matter what.

I’m sure by now you figured out I am talking about my crazy dog Ernest.  He is laying next to me now as I am writing this.  What a joy he has been in our life.  Even though he does have bad gas today!!

The newest kits I have been playing with Miss Crow’s Magickal Emporium are called Petite Fille and Petite Garcon.  You can find it here.  Wonderful kits for new babies, boys or girls.  I combined the two this time.  The word art is a freebie from DSP.

Things to Do Today and Layout

Now is the time to ask yourself what you intend to accomplish today. Write it down and then follow up later in your post as to what on your list, if any, you did.

No play practice today, so I can get all my online business items caught up.  I need to work on a couple of layouts for CT’s and post the one I did yesterday.  See below.  The dog and I went on our Wednesday walk and he has been fed and is down for his morning nap.  I will do my regular computer work and check out sites that I do daily.  Someone is coming this afternoon to give me an estimate to have our irrigation system updated.  And tonight, I have a drama club meeting.

Thats it for today.  Since my husband is visiting with his kids and mother for a few days in Georgia, I don’t have to worry about meals for a few days, except to fix something for me.

I should get all my work done today, because play practice is on Thursday and Friday.

Here is another great kit by Miss Crow’s Magickal Emporium called Petite Garcon and you can find it here in her store.  Beautiful blue colors for boys and wonderful elements.

And here is a layout with this kit.  I also used her date strips.

Achievements and Layout

Blog Prompt – Achievement connotes accomplishment of something noteworthy, after much effort and often in spite of obstacles and discouragements. What do you feel is your greatest achievement?

My biggest achievement is raising my son to be a wonderful young man, being the best wife, daughter and friend possible.  These achievements are always being achieved and worked on daily.

One thing that I am very proud of that I thought I could do and just decided to do this project by just doing research was to build my own computer.  My 9 year old Compaq was on its last leg and I didn’t want all the things that you find on store bought computers.  Those extras just eat up speed and hard drive space.  So, I figured out what parts I needed, googled many things to read and when I had everything I needed to build my own computer, I couldn’t wait to get started.

I was worried because the instructions were really easy and I just didn’t think something like a computer could be so much fun to put together.    It was like putting a puzzle together.  First connect the processor and cooling fan to the motherboard,  connect the motherboard to the case and then connect the hard drives and cd players/burners.

After I finished all that I just sat back and thought that was just way to easy.  My next fear was when I turned it on for the first time and it would blow up.  I took a deep breath, turned it on and before my eyes was the screen to download Windows operating system.  YEA!!  I couldn’t believe it!!  I installed Windows and I was ready to go.    I was never so proud of myself in my life.  I actually put something together that had parts and wires and needed electricity to run.

It’s been over 3 years now and my little computer is still running like a charm.  I have added a bit more RAM and another hard drive for storage.  The one thing I did learn was that next time I will spend a little extra money on a quieter cooling fan.  The whole computer cost me about $300 and I know many of you could build your own too.

Now on to a beautiful kit I am using.

Miss Crow’s Magickal Emporium has a great new kit called Petite Fille and you can find it here.  Beautiful kit for baby girls with tons of pinks and greens and wonderful elements.

and here is my layout using this kit.

Happy Birthday and Layout

Blog Prompt – How do you feel about celebrating your birthday?

I hate it!!  I know its just a number, but when the number hits those dreaded century birthdays and then when you hit the half century mark, oh my goodness!!  I am over a half century old.

My brain tells me I am much younger, but my body is telling me different.  I surely can’t do what I use to.  But, I still try.

The most important birthdays are 16 and 21, for obvious reasons.  But then 30, 40 and then 50 came along.  If my birthday gives me a reason to be with friends and family to enjoy a good meal and birthday cake, then its worth it.  Oh yea, lets not forget birthday cake.  To me, thats some of the best cake ever.

The birthday everyone looks forward to here where I live is 62.  Yup, you celebrate the idea you made it to that age and you get the wonderful check from the government you have worked so hard all your life for.  I still have a few years, but my husband will get his next year!!  Yea, a little more money coming into this house. One can always use a little more.

I hope everyone having a birthday today, tomorrow and in the future, to have a good one!!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Miss Crow’s Magickal Emporium has a really cute set of elements called Country Cottage. Cute cluster frames and papers. You can find them here.

There are many more items with this collection.

And here is a layout I did with some of the elements and paper.  I also used an element from Altered Valentine, record keeping stamps and glitter from her Spring kit.
