All About Oysters

Let’s start out with a joke today

Knock Knock
Who’s there?
Oyster
Oyster who?
Oyster you sure you should eat me??

I know that was a really bad joke, but all kidding aside, telling jokes about eating oysters could be harmful. I wanted to let you know about Gulf oysters. They are a great resource of vitamins A, B1(thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), C ( ascorbic acid) and D (calciferol). Four or five medium size oysters supply the recommended daily allowance of iron, copper, iodine, magnesium, calcium, zinc, manganese and phosphorus. But, they also have a down side too.

Not a serious health risk, but eating under cooked or raw fish may make you seriously ill. Living in Florida, you hear of people becoming ill from raw oysters.

Please check out Be Oyster Aware website to find out if you are more at risk than others.
