Holiday Vacation Rentals

I love going to the beach, sharing with family and enjoying this time of the year.  The crowds are low right now, its still warm and the sunsets are to die for. When ever I look for vacation rental homes, I usually look for good property management companies and I found a great one in the vacation rentals in Naples FL. The beaches and the area are just beautiful with great rates, a lot of pictures to look at and tons of rentals to choose from. They are fully equipped and some have pools and hot tubs. This is such a beautiful part of the country this time of the year.

The website is very easy to navigate through. You can search for homes by arrival date, how many bedrooms and price range. I love all the photos that are shown about the properties, which help a lot to decide what you want to choose. And for all of you who want to bring your pets, you can search for properties that allow pets on their property. I really love that because I hate to leave my dog home in a kennel for a whole week. He should enjoy a vacation too!

Good or Bad?

Blog Prompt – “Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.” ~Plato. Do you find Plato’s statement to be as accurate today as they were nearly 2000 years ago?

Yes, this statement still holds true today.  Even though they say good people sometimes  commit crimes.  Not in my heart or mind do good people ever commit crimes!

And it saddens me more and more to see more people turning to crime as a way of  “helping” them in a crises.  Stealing isn’t a way of helping you out of a situation.

It also saddens me to see that the family core is more and more not teaching our children between right and wrong.  How can anyone live with what only bad brings them?  Where do they learn that only bad things are good?  I can’t imagine having a heart that only feels bad.

When will it stop?

School Nurse and Free Kit

Blog Prompt – Today is National School Nurse Day.  Do you remember your school nurse and do you have a story about her.

I had the same school nurse for years.  Her name was Sally Burke and she was a really sweet lady.

The thing I remember the most is that in the 5th grade they had all the boys go to a room and watch a movie.  Later all the girls stood in line outside of that room and when the boys came out, I remember the look of horror in their eyes and faces.  I couldn’t imagine what in the world they had watched.

Then it was the girls turn and it was “THE” movie about sex education.  I will never forget looking around at all the girls and how horrified we all were at what we were looking at.  You have to remember this was the 1960’s and girls in the 5th grade didn’t know any of this stuff.

When the movie was over, Mrs. Burke asked if we had any questions.  One girl asked her how the sperm got to the woman?  (It didn’t explain that to us in the movie)  You could’ve heard a pin drop.  Mrs. Burke turned a nice shade a red and told us all we would find that out on our wedding night!

Well of course, none of us wanted to wait until then because that was years away.  We were intreegued by the movie and wanted answers immediately.

So, we asked the boys.  They knew and told us in living color.  GROSS!!

Boys!!  They all have cooties for sure and we knew they were lieing to us.  And how did they know those answers anyway?

Well, as the years passed, we all figured out the boys weren’t lieing and they didn’t even have cooties.

Party Time and The Singing Dog

Blog Prompt – You have to bring some food to a party. What’s it going to be?

We are always going to little get togethers here in our community.  My husband and I are planning one right now for a friend who is turning 60.   We really celebrate when someone turns 62!  We know that huge Social Secutiry check will finally be coming our way.

I usually bring the same thing to these parties.  Mainly because I’m asked to bring it back.  So the recipe must be good to be a repeat offender.  I usually bring Cornbread Salad or Pasta Salad and I will include the recipes for you all to try.  These are really good for summer parties or BBQ’s.

Southwestern Cornbread Salad

(6-ounce) package Mexican cornbread mix
(1-ounce) envelope buttermilk Ranch salad dressing mix
small head romaine lettuce, shredded
large tomatoes, chopped
(15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
(15-ounce) can whole kernel corn with red and green peppers, drained
(8-ounce) package shredded Mexican four-cheese blend
bacon slices, cooked and crumbled
green onions, chopped
Prepare cornbread according to package directions; cool and crumble. Set aside.
Prepare salad dressing according to package directions.

Layer a large bowl with half each of cornbread, lettuce, and next 6 ingredients; spoon half of dressing evenly over top. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients and dressing. Cover and chill at least 2 hours.

Summer Pasta Saladpastasaladsummer

14 oz mixed tri-colored twisted pasta
1 can black olives, sliced
2 small cans of sliced mushrooms
8 oz. mozzarella cheese
1 small onion, diced
1 small green pepper, diced
Sliced pepperoni
Parsley and black pepper to taste

Dressing:

1 cup sugar
1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup oil
1 pkg. Italian dry dressing

Mix all ingredients and set in fridge for a few hours before serving.

MY VERSION: I use turkey pepperoni for a lighter version

I hope you enjoy!

I know most of you know I have a boxer named Ernest and when it comes to “smarts”, I think my poor dog missed school that day.  I’m always looking at cute videos of boxers and I thought I would pass one on to you.

Taking Christmas Pictures

Every year, my husband and I take some kind of Christmas picture for our cards.  Either we do it ourselves or use one from some where we had gone during the year.

Our day trip this year isn’t until next week and I’m afraid if I wait till then to take the picture and then send it in with the cards, it will be too late.  So, this year we tried the concept of sitting in front of the tree with the dog and trying to get a good picture using the auto picture take option on my camera.

After many takes,  only 1 picture came out that wasn’t fuzzy.  Of course, the dog wasn’t looking at the camera, the top of my head was cut off, you could see my bra, my hubby had that puzzled look on his face and just bad all around.  And who can see what the picture really looks like in the little bitty tiny screen after you take the picture?  So, thats why I take a bunch and hope at least one comes out good.

So now, we are going to try again and this time we will do like we did before and sit on the floor instead of kind of squating like we did this time.

The pictures I used in our 2006 Christmas card was done with the auto picture taker and I think I took about 20 pictures.  This was the 1st year with Ernest the dog and we wanted to make sure he was in the photo.  AFter all, he is part of our family.

After quite a few shots, we finally got one where the dog looked at the camera.  That one was actually pretty nice and worked out great.

I decided to scrap some of the goofy pictures we got that night with April Staker’s new kit called Frozen.  You can find it here and the colors are so bright and reminds me of snow and how it glitters.  I loved the Christmas lights in the kit.
