Hubby and I are trying to figure out what we want to do for our 10 year anniversary.  We want to have an enjoyable trip to some where neither of us have ever been.  After going through travel sites, we came up on Newport Beach.

One of my favorite new shows on TV this season is Suburgatory. It chronicles the life of a single dad and his daughter who move to the suburbs in a moment of over-protective parenting. What happens from there is completely hilarious. All of the kids are generic and vapid, and the parents are no better. On a recent episode for Thanksgiving, one of the mother/daughter combos hosted a “Founders or Feathers” dinner, where each guest was required to dress as either a Native American or Pilgrim. The only catch? Both the Native Americans and Pilgrims were dressed very scantily. The dinner was a disaster, as the entire group ended up arguing at the table and most of the guests ended up leaving in a huff. It was hysterical. It reminded me of pretty much every family gathering in my family…ever, really. Minus the scantily dressed dinner guests, that is. I’m so glad this show came on this season. Definitely check out Direct Star TV to see when it comes on locally and tune in. You won’t be sorry.

I have been asked by many of you what kind of cell phone I have and what program or provider we use and how they can save money.

We have a small painting business that we need to keep in touch with customers and we also wanted to have a cell phone with us for safety issues. Especially when I am out alone in the car.

We did fall in that “monthly bill” trap of about $70.00 a month for us to have a cell phone with about 400 minutes a month that did not roll over. We realized after about a year, that we weren’t hardly using any of those minutes and was wasting quite a bit of money.

So, I did some research and realized I go to with a “pay as you go” plan, buy the largest amount of minutes offered and would work great with our family needs. Pay as you go is not for everyone. Especially if you need a cell phone as your only phone for your family. We still have a land line for our local calls at home.

TracFone is the pay as you go service we have been using now for 2 years now. We purchased our LG420G basic flip phone for $19.99 and it came with double lifetime minutes and 60 minutes to start off with. So, actually we started off with 120 minutes.

Here is the best part. There is no contract!! After having it a few days, we decided to buy $119 for 800 minutes. But, since we have double minutes for life we now had 1600 minutes. Buying the most minutes also meant that we didn’t have to buy anymore minutes for exactly one year and you get the most for your money. The face of all the phones will always show how many minutes you have and when your service time is about up and So many features you can choose from. Great phones packed with features like camera/video recorder, web access, app capabilities, mp3 player, and full QWERTY keyboard, for $29.99 and simple phones for $10.00. They also have 90 and 30 service days that you can buy with minutes. Even after 2 years of having the phone, we have only bought time at our year end date with our left over minutes rolling over into next year.

The coverage is great because these phones ping off of many towers and we haven’t experienced any dropped calls at all.

We were paying $840 a year for a phone contract we were hardly using and then went to $119 a year for minutes we do use with no contract. That’s a savings of $721 a year!!

This is such a great idea for your children or second phone. They do have monthly contracts if you like and also offer many other phones to choose from. They also have smart phones with all the latest technology like Blue tooth and web access.

A cell phone in our family is a semi-luxury but we still need to have one for emergencies on the road and to use with our part time job that keeps us from home and for customers call us.

When my son was little, VHS movies were just coming out and he would sit for hours and watch all those wonderful old movies that I watched when I was a child.
