We do love our tv and the entertainment it brings us.   I love watching movies that make me laugh too.   Our crazy boxer, Mr. Ernest T. Bass is a wonderful source of entertainment for us. Our northern neighbors make us laugh everyday. Sorry, but being from the south, you have to laugh sometimes at your yankee friends.

My husband has a fireman friend that calls him every now and again to let him know the latest news where my husband use to be a fireman at. And that is a guarantee laugh every single time he calls. He sings us songs he has made up and tells us great jokes.

Laughing is what gets us all through the day.

Last night, as Glenn was smearing me in a game of Scrabble, the dog was really checking out the lanai.  I turned to look and there he was!!  That rat with a tail was hanging off of the hook that my bird feeder hangs on and enjoying a little snack not intended for him.

I pecked on the window and he just gave me that squirrel look, while at the same time, stuffing his mouth with bird seed.  I went outside to scare him off and the fight was on.  The dog was going nuts, the squirrel was barking at me and I was waving my hands all over the place.  The squirrel just hung onto the screened in porch and laughed.  (He also tinkled all over my screen)  Finally, after a few minutes of calling each other names, he ran off. 

So, I guess now I am going to have to figure out a better place to hang the bird feeder to keep that pesky rat with a tail out of it.

You have heard that a favorite celebrity will be coming to your home for dinner. You can decide to cook for them or order in or take them out. What 5 dishes would you want them to taste? They can be any part of a meal (appetizers, main dish, vegetables, salads, desserts) or all of one type (all desserts for example).

Since my husband and I our redneck southerners, here is our list.

1. BBQ – Chicken, pork or beef. We BBQ them all.
2. Brunswick Stew – This is a stew that was made by settlers that would take the “catch of the day” and make a stew out of it with vegetables. Really good.
3. Potato Salad, Coleslaw and Fried Okra and maybe, if it is in season, fresh Sweet Corn on the Cob.
4. Baked Beans
5. Strawberry Shortcake with fresh, grown in the garden

To nap or not to nap? Which side of this issue are you on?

I cracked up when I saw this prompt today. Asking someone over the age of 50 whether she wants to nap or not. I live in a community where schedules are made around every one’s afternoon naps! The joke around here is, “Time to go to bed after Murder She Wrote.” A tv show that’s over by 8 pm.

Now to answer the question. I do and I don’t like to take naps. With my body going through menopause right now, it tells me all the time, “TAKE A NAP”! But, when I do, I can’t fall asleep when its time to go to bed. So, I am basically so tired and run down during the day. When I go to bed, I fall asleep pretty quickly, but then will awake about 3 am and will just lay there wide eyed. I use to sleep so well too!!

I do love to take a nap while I am riding in a car. I hear I have been doing that since I was a mere child. I remember laying in the floor board area in the back of the car to feel the car moving down the road. It felt like someone was rocking me to sleep. I loved doing that and of course, this was pre-seat belt era.

Now my husband is another subject. If he doesn’t get his afternoon nap, he is worse than a very young child around dinner time. We had some errands to run yesterday and while we were going down the road he said in his best little boy voice, “I’m not going to get my nap this afternoon and I know I will be cranky.”

We also have to watch major TV shows before 9 pm or he will be asleep on the couch. So, that’s another good reason to have DVR service.

Blog Prompt: Tell about an imaginary friend that you had when you were growing up. If you didn’t have one, tell about one you would have liked to have.

I don’t recall having an imaginary friend. I had my brother and my dolls to play with. I remember talking to them and using them in my everyday life of acting like a mom and they were my babies.  The picture shows me with one of my many.  BTW, the rocking chair is still in the family.  It was my dads, then mine, then my brothers, then my sons and now to my nephew.  It has truly been loved.

I don’t think I would’ve needed one back then. I enjoyed things the way they were.

For me, I have a really hard time with English. Much less trying to learn a foreign language.

But, I guess speaking Redneck is a second language for me. I’m a country girl and if you know many people from the country, you find out quickly how we butcher the English language. I defiantly put more than 1 or 2 syllables on a word that really shouldn’t be there.

Like the word dog. I drag it out to dawwwgggg.

My mom use to say, “Were you raised in a barn.” Cause our manners weren’t right.

If something is really good to eat, I say, “That’ll make you slap yer momma.” But you are only allowed to say that if the meal is REALLY good.

I’m “fixin to” is a saying I use a lot. I’m fixin to do this. I’m fixin to make supper.

Oh, and I do know a little sign language. I use to bowl with a deaf woman and she taught us many signs. Mainly all the bad words.

Have you ever moved? What was most memorable about it? If you never have what do you think would make it memorable?

I’ve moved many times with my dad being in the military and then in my recent years moving from Missouri to Georgia and then to Florida.  And I have some horror stories to share, but I think I will share a good story this time.

One of the moves I remember is when we moved back to the states in 1965 when I was in the 3rd grade from Hawaii to Missouri. It was a 4 hour flight from Honolulu to California and since my brother was small and I was older, I got to sit in an area all by myself. But, my neighbor was a sailor in uniform. He was so nice to me and gave me candy and helped with my food tray. I think that day was the first time I fell in love with an older man! And I also knew at that very moment that I would marry a man in uniform.  Well, that came true when I married my husband the fireman.  I just love a happy ending.

Blog Prompt – The toothpick was patented in 1872. Besides the obvious use of the toothpick, is there something else you use this invention for?

I have never been much on using toothpicks. My husband uses them everyday. I have been known to use one when I eat corn, but thats about it.

My husband taught me how to use toothpicks when you need to to put a screw back in a hole that has gotten too big for the screw. Just break off pieces of the toothpick and put next to the screw. This way the screw will have something to grab onto when replacing it back in the wall. You can use this shim method in many small areas. Works great!
