I Need A Nap

To nap or not to nap? Which side of this issue are you on?

I cracked up when I saw this prompt today. Asking someone over the age of 50 whether she wants to nap or not. I live in a community where schedules are made around every one’s afternoon naps! The joke around here is, “Time to go to bed after Murder She Wrote.” A tv show that’s over by 8 pm.

Now to answer the question. I do and I don’t like to take naps. With my body going through menopause right now, it tells me all the time, “TAKE A NAP”! But, when I do, I can’t fall asleep when its time to go to bed. So, I am basically so tired and run down during the day. When I go to bed, I fall asleep pretty quickly, but then will awake about 3 am and will just lay there wide eyed. I use to sleep so well too!!

I do love to take a nap while I am riding in a car. I hear I have been doing that since I was a mere child. I remember laying in the floor board area in the back of the car to feel the car moving down the road. It felt like someone was rocking me to sleep. I loved doing that and of course, this was pre-seat belt era.

Now my husband is another subject. If he doesn’t get his afternoon nap, he is worse than a very young child around dinner time. We had some errands to run yesterday and while we were going down the road he said in his best little boy voice, “I’m not going to get my nap this afternoon and I know I will be cranky.”

We also have to watch major TV shows before 9 pm or he will be asleep on the couch. So, that’s another good reason to have DVR service.

Have a great day,

A Happy Move

GlennFirefighterHave you ever moved? What was most memorable about it? If you never have what do you think would make it memorable?

I’ve moved many times with my dad being in the military and then in my recent years moving from Missouri to Georgia and then to Florida.  And I have some horror stories to share, but I think I will share a good story this time.

One of the moves I remember is when we moved back to the states in 1965 when I was in the 3rd grade from Hawaii to Missouri. It was a 4 hour flight from Honolulu to California and since my brother was small and I was older, I got to sit in an area all by myself. But, my neighbor was a sailor in uniform. He was so nice to me and gave me candy and helped with my food tray. I think that day was the first time I fell in love with an older man! And I also knew at that very moment that I would marry a man in uniform.  Well, that came true when I married my husband the fireman.  I just love a happy ending.

Everyone have a wonderful day,

Toothpicks Anyone?

Blog Prompt – The toothpick was patented in 1872. Besides the obvious use of the toothpick, is there something else you use this invention for?

I have never been much on using toothpicks. My husband uses them everyday. I have been known to use one when I eat corn, but thats about it.

My husband taught me how to use toothpicks when you need to to put a screw back in a hole that has gotten too big for the screw. Just break off pieces of the toothpick and put next to the screw. This way the screw will have something to grab onto when replacing it back in the wall. You can use this shim method in many small areas. Works great!

Trashy People?

Blog Prompt: What would people think if they went through your garbage?

That we use a lot of toilet paper and drink a lot of tea.

We have an interesting deal with trash around here.  We have the blue box for recyclables, I have a little trash can for doggie poop that I pick up, we have a trash can for landscaping items and we have our regular trash can in the house for the rest.

Our regular trash is picked up around here on Mondays and Thursdays.  So the doggie poop bag, regular trash bags and the blue box go out then.  Two different trucks come buy for different trash. Absolutely no grass or yard waste is allowed on these days and believe me, if they think there is anything like that in your bags, they will rip it open and leave it on your drive way to clean up.

Wednesdays is ONLY landscaping trash day and these guys are very picky about how you collect your landscape cuttings.  No grass clippings are allowed.  If we ever have any grass to throw away, it has to go to a special dump down the road.  Florida law.  If you have any tree limbs or palm limbs that have not been cut up and bagged, you have have to tie them up in a bundle or the trash guys will yell at you.  They haven’t yelled at us, but I have seen them do it neighbors.  It ain’t a pretty site.

Don’t get me wrong.  These guys are doing their job and I don’t blame them for getting upset.  They are nice people and always wave and say hi when I pass them when I am walking.  Maybe its because I am walking with a big dog.

Cheese Anyone?

Blog Prompt: Today is Cheese Day. What is your favorite cheese and why?

Wow!! I love cheese and this is such a bad thing with heart disease runs in my family. I buy 2% fat cheese, which makes me think I am doing a little bit better for myself.

I love cheese on everything. Burgers, eggs, salads, chips, casseroles, etc. I love the taste of cheddar, monterey jack and mozzarella.

I say love is like cheese.  It ripens with time.  But left alone, it hardens and dries out.

My High School

bluejayWhat were your high school colors? Team names? Clubs you belong too? Did you graduate? What do you remember most about your graduation day?

We are the Bluejays, mighty, mighty Bluejays, every where we gooooooo, people want to know, who are we? We are the! Bluejays

Sorry, the prompt brought back an old cheer we use to do.

Our team colors are royal blue and white and our mascot is the Bluejay. I didn’t belong to any clubs because my band work kept me busy. I was in the musicals every year, sand in a sextet and madrigal group and was a member of the National Honor Society. I worked on the school year book and was in track my Senior year.

I graduated in 1975 with honors from my high school and I just remember thinking what am I going to do now?? I went on to college and graduated but never truly worked with my computer science degree.

Snowing in Florida

It has been so cold the past 2 weeks here in Central Florida with the nights being in the 20′s.  All my plants are burned and brown and my heater is working over time for sure.

I woke up this morning and there was snow covering the houses and I couldn’t believe it.  When I heard on the weather yesterday that there might be a chance of a wintery mix, I just laughed.  But, Mother Nature showed her force today.

I had to take a picture to pass on to my friends up north.

snow

I know some of you are saying, “Thats not much”, but this is the most to accumulate in this area since 1977.  I hope my husband is happy now.

Stay warm,
