Learn From Your Mistakes

Blog Prompt: Has anyone ever made a mistake that you promised yourself to never make? Did you keep your promise to yourself?

Oh, I have made many mistakes in my life and learned from them.

Like, never plug something into the wall and your hand is wet.  Read a recipe correctly and not use sweetened condensed milk instead of  evaporated milk to use in tuna casserole and there are many more.

But, I have to agree with my blog friend Pat, that my biggest promise was not to let myself go, keep exercising and watch what I eat.  I have too many things I want to do in this world and being physically fit and able to get around is one of them.  Also, not having good genes with heat attacks and strokes will keep your mind in the right place for sure.  Menopause has really taken a tole on my body and there are some pounds that I need to get rid of for sure.

One other thing I promised myself was that if hair color comes in a box, it would be on my hair.  I just can’t let myself go gray yet.  Maybe in my 60′s, but not now.  That makes me feel older than anything else.

Learn from your mistakes so you don’t repeat them in the new year.

Our Babysitter

Blog Prompt: When your parents would go out what would you do?

My brother and I only had babysitters a few times, because we had grandmas that lived close. And I don’t recall doing anything way out there and we were always good with our babysitter or grandmas. If not, we knew the consequences when my parents came home.

I do remember our babysitter while we lived in Hawaii that was really fun and she played games with us and was always nice. I would dress up and we would play house or dolls. I wish I could remember her name. But, that was back in the 60′s and my mind can’t recall that for some reason.

Pearl Harbor Day

Blog Prompt: Today is Pearl Harbor Day. What do you remember learning about it?

Living in Pearl Harbor City, while my dad served 5 years in the Navy, I knew a lot about that day. I have visited the USS Arizona a few times with family and I still see that wall with all the names on it so vividly. Even though I was very young, I still remember standing there and seeing the gas on the water that still leaks.   Something I will never forget.  I will also never forget what those men and women sacrificed that day for our country.

I wanted to post a picture of my grandmother and me at the wall, but my mom has all those pictures.  I need to scan them for my collection.

WeddingMy parents were married on December 7th, 1956 in Memphis, TN to the tune of Don’t Be Cruel by Elvis.  The Justice of the Peace forgot to turn off his radio.  My mom said they did that so my dad would always remember!!

Their 53rd anniversary would have been today.  My dad lived until a month shy of their 51st.

Everyone have a great day.  Having to get a new quote for some cheap car insurance. State Farm is dropping all the homeowners insurance in the state of Florida and they had our car insurance too. Been with them since I was 16 and this happens.

Have a great day,

I Really Hated History

Blog Prompt: Which class do think was the hardest?

Oh my gosh that would be any kind of history class. I hated history all during high school. We had to learn the US Constitution and the Missouri Constitution and make a passing grade before we could go on to the next year. Civics drove me up the wall and world history, well, it made no sense to me what ever. It was a miracle I passed any of those classes back then.

The only thing I paid attention to in my Freshman history class was my teacher. He was hot!! All I did was look at him and didn’t pay attention to anything coming out of his mouth. He was the only teacher my mom ever came to talk to at school. I felt sorry for him at class time after that because it wasn’t his fault I wasn’t learning that stuff.

And all our history teachers back then were coaches. I wonder if thats pretty true today.

Now I am really upset that I didn’t pay attention more then because I am really interested in history. I still learn about it everyday and you can teach an old dog new tricks for sure.

I’m I glad I found Free Math homework help or I would still be in high school.

Have a great weekend,

High School Work

Blog Prompt: Did you hold down a job in high school? How would you describe the job and how you felt about it?

Well, since I am ancient, I didn’t have to have a job in high school and actually, I didn’t know anyone in high school that did. We were such a small farming community that there wouldn’t have been a job anyway.

But, during the summer, when I could drive, I did detassle corn. A process where you pull the tassel from the corn in certain rows so that the pollen from the tassels that were left will pollinate the plant easier. It was hard work, but the pay was good and it only lasted a few weeks.

I did Bible School for the little ones at my church during the summer time too. And spending 2 weeks in Girl Scout camp took up part of my summer.

Little did I know that after I got out of college that work would never stop!! I couldn’t wait to start my first job and before I knew it, I couldn’t wait to stop working.

Thinking about high school made me think about looking at skateboards for my nephew for Christmas.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Mickey Mouse is the Man

Blog Prompt – Today is Mickey Mouse’s Birthday. Do you have a favorite Disney character?

How can you not love Mickey Mouse! That little mouse started such an empire that you just have to adore him.

So, my favorite show as a VERY young child was the Mickey Mouse Club.  (Do I date myself?)  That show was so cool and of course, the cartoons were the best.

I still have my Mickey Mouse Club card and I have it framed here in my office. I became a member in 1963 and I was a member of the Hawaii Chapter. I would scan it but its framed professionally and I can’t take it apart.

I will get to see the famous mouse in December when we meet 4 of the grandchildren and their parents at a Disney breakfast.  I’ve never done this before so this will be a big treat and I will get my picture made with Mickey!!  Woo Hoo!!  Then we will enjoy a day at Epcot.  Another place I haven’t been to before.  I can’t wait to see all the Christmas decorations and take tons of pictures to share.

And of course everyone one, well anyone around in the 60′s remembers the Alma Mater. Here is a video clip:

And this clip when it came time to watch a cartoon.

So everyone have a Mickey Mouse wonderful day,

Sesame Street Fun

Sesame_streetBlog Prompt – Sesame Street debuted in 1969. Did you or your kids watch Sesame Street and who is your favorite character?

Sesame Street was a big part of our home when my son was younger. He loved that show and I loved the message that it sent out to children. I have to admit, Sesame Street was my child’s baby sitter while I did a few chores around the house and kept him entertained and not investigating new adventures which always seemed to get him in trouble.  Of course, my son would act out some of the characters.  Especially Cookie Monster when he was eating.

My favorite character was Beaker.  I just loved the voice they did for him.  Here is a little video of him.  I hope you enjoy.

Everyone have a meme of a day,
