Hummingbirds

I love to feed hummingbirds and it has been a real struggle here in Florida to do so. They come around when they are migrating, but they usually head further north for the summer. I have been here 4 summers now and finally got 1 hummer last year that would visit my feeder daily. I had tons of them in Georgia. Couldn’t keep the feeder full.

Hummers are such beautiful creatures and to watch them fly and feed it just a miracle. I can sit close to them and it doesn’t bother them at all. I’ve taken incredible videos of them when we lived in Georgia.

But I found out that if I didn’t have the correct feeder, the hummingbirds weren’t going to feed. I love the glass hummingbird feeder and all the different colors and shapes they come in.

I’ve had a few feeders and the picture on the left is my favorite. Its easy to clean, holds up well in the Florida heat and the hummers seem to see it well. I’ve had it outside now for 2 years and it has really done well. Its called the Perky Pet Hummingbird Feeder and it holds about 2 cups of nectar.

Something else I have learned about getting hummers to your house. Your neighbors need to have feeders too. So, if anyone in your neighborhood is having a birthday, this is a great gift to give. The more feeders, the more hummers.

The Red Ruby Throated hummer is the only hummer that you see in Florida. And its beautiful. Of course, the females are not as attractive. They love the nectar you buy in the store or that you make from sugar and water. I also have planted plants around the feeder that they love to visit.
