My Favorite Dog and A Layout

Blog Prompt: On May 8, 1877, the first Westminster Dog Show was held. What is your favorite kind of dog?

My favorite dog is the boxer. I have had these dogs since I was small and you just have to love this big, bubbly, slobbering, stuborn, always happy dog. They are great with families, especially children.

The temperament is described like this, “Boxers are a bright, energetic and playful breed and tend to be very good with children. They are active dogs and require adequate exercise to prevent boredom-associated behaviors such as chewing or digging. Boxers have earned a slight reputation of being “headstrong”, which can be related to inappropriate obedience training. Owing to their intelligence and working breed characteristics, training based on corrections often has limited usefulness. Boxers often respond much better to positive reinforcement techniques such as clicker training, which affords the dog an opportunity to think independently and to problem-solve.

The Boxer by nature is not an aggressive or vicious breed, but it does need socialization. Boxers are generally patient with smaller dogs and puppies, but issues with larger adult dogs, especially those of the same sex, may occur. Boxers are generally more comfortable with companionship, in either human or canine form.”

Ernest T. Bass

I have had 4 boxers over my life time and all of them were different in every way. My newest boxer was rescued and we named him Ernest T. Bass. He came with the name of Ernest and since my husband loves the Andy Griffith Show and he was going to be living with a couple of rednecks, the name was perfect for him.   Ernest came with some issues; really messed up stomach and having problems with some dogs. But, after having him for 2 years now and a lot of training (Thanks Ceaser Millan), he is turning into a wonderful boxer. He still has a few issues being around some dogs and this is due to not ever being socialized with other dogs. But, I hope with time, he will just ignore other dogs and enjoy his boxer life.

Ernest is also the first boxer I have ever had with a tail.  Their tails are generally docked at birth, but his was not.  His tail is a dangerous weapon when it gets in full wagging gear!!  Watch out legs!!

I made this layout about all my boxers and their personalites.

  1. My daughter, the dog fanatic, asks me this question all the time. I think my favorite dogs are labs — fun, sweet, smart, and maybe just a little bit less energetic than a boxer!

  2. What a cute dog! Great layouts.

  3. Cute layouts. Boxers are fun, but with too boys, I have enough energy in my house, so I think we will stick with cats and chickens for a while.
My oldest son liks little dogs, the kind you carry around in your purse.

  4. Boxers look so cute but kind of intimidate me. I love all ofyour boxers!

  5. When we were thinking of getting Scamp a dog, it was boxers that we looked into. As it was he decided to go live with his dad and we never got one. Both of your layouts are great.
