New Discovery
What future discovery do you eagerly await? Why?
I guess whats on my mind now for a future new discovery is a cure or prevention of Alzheimer’s. What a destructive disease. My husbands mother is at the end stages and we were talking about how hard this must be for her and he replied, “Really, its not hard on her because she doesn’t know whats going on, but its been so hard on the family watch her deteriorate to nothing.” It’s killing my husband to watch his mother slowly die like that. This disease is not only taking a wonderful life slowly away, but it has also divided brothers, other family members and what to do about her care.
I live in a retirement community and watch all these wonderful aging individuals, 20 years older than I, having a great time. Playing tennis, pickle ball, swimming, golfing and really enjoying life. That’s the way it should be for every one in their Golden Years.
I am only 50 and will do anything possible to enjoy my life up into my 80′s or 90′s. And maybe in the next few years someone will find a way to stop this horrible disease.
Another disease with no known cure. My grandfather had alzheimers, luckily (if you can call it that) he died before it got too advanced.
Amen. I hope that cure is closer than we think. What an awful disease.
It is a horrible disease and I agree that it is worse for the family members to watch. Try to remember that your mom in law is probably remembering a lot of happy times which may help during the rough times. I am always reading about stuff they think may prevent/slow down this from happening and hope they find a cure soon.
I think it is one of the things we fear most as we get older. I know my Mother was more afraid of the thought of Alzheimers than she was of heart falure. But it was her heart that let her down in the end, not her mind.
