Piano Player I Am Not
Blog Prompt – What’s one skill you’ve wanted but don’t have?
I always wanted to learn to play the piano decently. Yea, I can poke a simple song out on the piano and I use to take lessons. But, I started in high school and I already knew how to read music and my mind was reading the music faster than I could make my fingers play. It was very frustrating. I could only learn to play a song and that was it. I couldn’t just open a book and play. Only one song at a time. Make that song the best it could be and move on to a new song. The only song I really played well was Moonlight Sonata and I was attempting Fur Elise. I guess its a good idea to start very young to learn to play.
I always admired anyone that could play anything you ask them to play. My son learned how to play in college in a couple of semesters. *sigh* And the piano players that can’t read music and still play wonderful music, just amazes me even more.
Kudos to all you great piano players out there. Speaking of great piano players, the very first concert I every went to was to see Liberace. Oh my goodness his playing was wonderful. And of course, his 2 million dollar wardrobe he wore was even more spectacular. I loved those diamond buttons! He would play his piano while dancing waters was in the background. I was a little disappointed when I saw his candelabra was lite with lights and not real fire. Didn’t realize it was a fire hazard!
I thought I would post a video of him playing chopsticks.He takes a simple song that all of us have played on the piano before and turned into something magnificent. I know you younger folks might not have ever even heard of his playing. So, I hope you enjoy.
That’s a great thing to want to learn! I’ve always wanted to learn to play piano as well!
that is awesome – and the Monlight sonata is beautiful. I tried to play the piano myself and had simular problems like yours.
I never learned the piano but thru out school i learned the flute, trumpet, trumbone, french horn, and claranet. so that is enough. Last year I wanted to learn to quilt and I did. I would love to learn how to ride a motorcycle. that is this years goal i think!
I’ve always wanted to play the guitar. I’m not sure my Guitar Hero playing counts.

Thanks for sharing that video! I was just picturing you sitting beside him and playing along with him! I always wished I could play “by ear” but unless I have music, I can’t play anything on my accordion.
Learning the piano may be difficult for beginners but as long as you’re eager to learn and with constant practice sooner you’ll be surprise you can play like a pro
