Toys

What were your favorite toys or games when you were a child?
I was a child in the late 50′s and 60′s and there were some really neat toys out then. And oh, btw, none of those toys in anyway harmed my life!
Anyway, slinky and slinky dog, Chatty Cathy and Barbie. I have to say those were some of my favs. The slinky I could play with for hours. Trying to figure out how that did that gong down the stairs. Well, the dog you couldn’t do that to. You just walked him. Chatty Cathy I had for years. I mean all the way through high school. Of course, I cut her hair off and she was a stubble head, but she was still my Chatty Cathy. Fun doll. And of course, Barbie was a big hit with me. Barbie was born in 1959, so I was there for the 1st addition. I had her and Ken and they lived in a cardboard Barbie House.
I played for hours with them in this cardboard house. All the furniture was cardboard and I loved it. Always changing the decor around for parties and such. I never could understand why Barbie had hair and Ken had plastic hair. Oh well, maybe thats why I never trusted him.
Later I got Barbie with movable legs, knees, arms and elbows. Now she was cool and my grandmother would make Barbie and I the same outfits. I wish I had pictures of those.
When my parents moved to Florida, we got rid of all the Barbies and their cases. I will probably regret that.

Oh, you should have kept those Barbie cases! I have my mom’s barbies, my barbies, barbies that belonged to my 16 yr old…and soon we’ll have more for April.
Those Barbies and cases would have been worth something I bet! When I was little I had a “Sindy” doll who was the English version of Barbie (she looked younger and much chubbier)
I remember some of those toys from my step-mother, she had a ton of those old barbies, cases and all that stuff.
Wow seriously! If only you had known what Barbie would be worth now! I wish I had someone to make me the same outfit as my Barbie, too fun.
Ahhh, those were the good old days! I remember chatty Cathy! My parents wouldn’t get her for me because they said I was chatty enough! LOL I still have a Barbie case and a couple of Barbies (not in good shape).
I am new collector to Barbie ( I have over 25 special editions) but I wasnt all that impressed with her as a kid. I loved my Uno cards (with the plastic card caddy), my books…A Wrinkle in Time must have been read a million times and monopoly game. I had a ton of fun being the Banker.
You need to scrap that…photos, journaling and all. What a great memory! Thanks so much for sharing!
I agree with Glynis what a cool layout that would be with your fantastic journaling. I was a big Barbie fan to. There are so many wonderful memories there. I still have all of mine. My parents have moved it around with them over the years and some things that really didn’t have a lot of “memories” I sold at garage sales but everything I want is still packed carefully in boxes. Talking about it makes me want to get it all and look at it. LOL! LOL! LOL!
Gosh those pictures bring back memories. Remember when they first came out with the posable knee Barbies and you could trade in the original for one? I wish I never had, but at 8 what do you know….
